       McCulloch Titan 70
By: Al Smith Date: July 15, 2011, 12:58 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
This is kind of an interesting saw .According to McBob and
others this thing was made by McCulloch in Italy in a factory
       they owned .
70 cc ,vertical cylinder made around 1990 .It's in real good
shape and handles the 24" bar it came with real good .
In comparrison to say the Mac 700 it doesn't quite have the
grunt but has the speed of a Stihl so it about evens out .Fact
it's not much different if any from a Stihl 044 powerwise .
Dumb me couldn't figure out why in the world the danged thing
would sputter out after a prime because the thing had sat about
4 years .So I rebuilt the carb ,nice but not it .Fuel lines gone
.Shoulda thought of that in the first place .
This model sitting on the tail gate of my Ranger is the only one
I've ever seen in my lifetime except pictures on flea bay .
Posted same pic 2 times. ;)

A couple posts under the shrouding .This is the power side .The
thing runs an outboard clutch like Stihl with evidently a
crankshaft driven center mount oil pump .The screw right center
below the clutch is the adjustment .

Top side ,center combustion chamber decomp .The rubber gizmo on
the spark plug boot completely seals off the top shrounding so
the fan blows full force over the cylinder .Must work ,this
thing is clean as a pin and I have never blown out the dust .

It's got a pretty good sized air filter all things considered
which seems to work fine .The gas cap is some model of Husqvarna
which I had to slightly modify to work .Hmm gas cap mod ,who
       knew . ;D
Actually by brother in law gave me this thing along with a half
dozen others .One was what got turned into the piped mini Mac .
He complained this Titan was hard to start ,well with a cracked
fuel line that makes sense it would start hard .
Ha good old Dave used to go with us about 30 years ago when
myself and my dad who was about my age now did a lot of cutting
.The old man and I ran Mac PM 610's ,his pepped a tad bit .We
always outran my brother in law which annoyed him .He showed up
every week with a different saw but to no avail .Once he got his
hot little hands on a souped 10-10 Mac which he ran on 50 to 1
with AV gas and 10 percent nitro .It ran alright just not too
long .Grenaded a piston after about an hour .

I saw that myself . Like I said I've seen exactly one of them
,the one I own .I still think it was about a sink or swim last
ditch effort on McCullochs part because by 1990 they had just
       about lost the war .
Just goes to show you if you don't take care of business you
won't have a business to take care of .They didn't and now they
       don't .
