Porting tools, what works for you
By: aclarke Date: July 3, 2014, 1:14 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I use Foredom SR motor with foot control, misc. Straight hand
pieces, couple of small latch type hand pieces(55a +b) and an
NSK 90 degree hand piece. #55 handpieces are only for really
small detailed work and will last for years if treated as such.
I use a bunch of alumihog as well as smooth cut carbide bits.
The coarse cut bits need a light touch or you'll ruin a jug
quickly. I find the Craytex rubberized diamond tips quite handy
       for final clean up/chattering.

I use a lot of oval and ball single cut carbide burrs, and
rounded cylindrical and ball diamond points. I use mostly the
#30 generic, #44 Foredoms, generic slender, the CC 182MC and my
custom made NSK dental head handpieces.
An older shot of my goto's. I've since started to use more
diamond points to smooth transfer ports and to chamfer ports.

This is an older shot of what I happened to have chucked up that
       day.

This is the NSK dental adapter I made compared to the CC 182Mc.
It uses latch burrs like the Foredom 55's but the $18 NSK knock
off dental head seems to hold up much better than the Foredom
contra's, and it doesn't get hot either. Bit change is a snap,
push the button on the back and slide a new bit in. I broke 3
55d's before I bought the 182MC, but I missed the quick change
of bits and how small they were for sub 60cc cylinders.

NSK dental adapter with a modified 1/8" shaft, 1/4" head single
cut carbide burr... the transfer hog!

A Foredom #8 next to a generic slender handpiece I found that I
can convert to use with the Foredom shaft.

I do sell the generic slender and #30 handpieces currently.
Also I'm thinking of starting to sell the NSK dental adapters
and provide a service to skinny 1/8" shaft burrs and cut the
latch groove in them if anyone is interested.

I updated all my stuff for me and the wife to what srcarr hand
pieces he modded. I noticed alot less vibration between the
hand piece and the new flex shaft he sent out.
Wife still hasnt had to use the small slender one.
What better use for one of the wife's bird feeder or plant
       hangers.

Any of you experts using these ones? 4 new ones I never used
after loosing interest inside the cylinders.
I had no patience and couldnt get out what I was used to
running from others. No lathe etc didnt help with just using
       redneck methods.

       Kev,
those McMaster Carr carbide burrs are high quality and American
made. I use the same. I'm flush with cutters, perhaps someone
else will take Em off your hands
Hope everyone has a nice 4th weekend!!

I've got a few of those hand pieces from shaun. They work
nicely. I do have the cc 182 right angle. I need to get a good
foredom motor that's reversible soon. I'm still using the cheap
Chicago tool motor that ki got from Durand. I bought a lot of
bits from cc and like those alumni hog bits they sell.

FYI. McMaster sells Buckeye carbide. You can save yourself some
money and buy directly from them, or from their main distributor
       on ebay.

All I've got is a Dremel, actually three but I can only find one
at the moment .I must have half a coffee can full of little
cutters of all sizes shapes and lengths .Plus cratex ,felt
       fobs,stones etc .
It's slow but believe it of not I can do the upper transfers
actually pretty well considering .If I ever get around to
cleaning up my pig sty of a garage I'll probably find the other
       two Dremels .
