       Additives to JB Weld
By: KilliansRedLeo Date: May 27, 2014, 8:02 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have a customer basket case saw in for repair. The owner was
going to try to repair it them self. Got it into a million
pieces and gave up. Anyway, he sort of messed up when drilling a
small hole in a crank seal. Hit the case and then put in a
drywall screw to pull the seal. Going to try to redneck a repair
to the case. The lip of the case where the seal goes has a nice
#6 dry wall screw notch in it. It will never seal, not even if I
       coated the seal with 1194.
So, I have some powered aluminum here from another project. I
mixed up some JB but it was too thin to stay where I wanted it.
I mixed in powered aluminum until the epoxy got a little thicker
so it could be pressed into the screw tracks. Appeared to do the
trick. Putting bearings in it now so we will see. I plan to also
coat the outer mating surface of the seal with 1194 as suggested
by JMester and Stihl, we will see if the repair holds.
Anyone else tried this sort of thing? I know that when I used to
build quarter scale RC sail planes I used epoxy and fine shot to
achieve final balance on the craft before first flight.

Devcon titanium is much thicker and fuel resistant than the jb.
Cynocrylate and powdered metal works great for repairs like
       yours.....

Thanks Adam, never even thought of CA glue. One of these days
I'll pony up the $ and buy the devcon product. The repair is on
a Husqvarna 1100CD saw. Hope it works and holds, I don't want to
go looking for a case half and I don't he will want to pay for
one if I could find one!

Just checked out the price of the Devcon product, $118 for a
       pound of the putty.

Can it be welded. Only cost is the shipping.
