Oregon is introducing a new line of lightweight 'professional'
guide bars. As I understand, they are laminated bars with an
aluminum core, and no sprocket lubrication holes (big change for
Oregon). No RSN models planned. Available in 'Spring - Summer
2016'?
(Quoted from an Oregon Rep - edited for length.)
"These bars use completely new sprocket nose assemblies which
are designed to outlast the bar rails. Our lab testing and field
testing . . . have confirmed this.
. . . the nose shield is packed with grease at assembly and its
purpose is twofold: 1) it keeps the grease in the nose while
still allowing the bar and chain oil to enter the nose assembly
for continual lubrication and 2) it prevents debris from
entering the nose and causing wear on the nose components. So
there will no longer be a need to add grease to the nose as long
as you are using bar and chain oil.
. . . the new design(s) also feature our LubriTec system which
has an angled oil hole at the tail that increases the velocity
of the oil that is delivered to the chain and bar for better
lubrication.
. . . these bars will eventually replace the Pro-Lite family.
- 'SpeedCut' is a narrow kerf (micro-lite) bar . . . for use . .
. on saws up to 55 cc
- 'ControlCut' are standard kerf bars (.050, .058 and .063
gauge) with small nose radius which helps prevent kickback . . .
- 'VersaCut' are standard kerf bars (.050, .058 and .063 gauge)
with large nose radius which are suitable for use in a variety
of applications."

I have had the new catalog for a month or better and had yet to
notice the new bars.
200VXLHK095 $55.19 list price but realistically can be bought
for around $45. not a bad price when compared to other light
weight bars. might have to try one out and see what the weight
is

I saw it in a new products video from GIE, so was sort of
looking for them.

These remind me of the techlite bars for the smaller huskys.

the lightweight bars are popular.

About the same weight savings in the 24/25" bars also.
All adds up by the end of the day. :)

[member=2]Gatekeeper[/member] just in case you missed
westcoasters post.
K095 mount 16" Oregon prolite and Cannon
westcoaster = Both 3/8's .058 16". Not an 18" but i'm sure the
results would be similar. a 346 550 balances perfect with a 16"
18" cannon and i feel there is no need to go lighter.
[/quote]
I just weighted a Sugihara "Superlight" laminate in 16" (66dl)
.325 .058 K095 with a 10t nose. It came out at 690 grams = 1.52
lbs = 1 pound 8.3 oz.
It isn't a surprice to me that the Oregon ProLite weights as
much as some RSN bars, as those are heavy for laminated bars.
I'm not claiming my scale is accurate, it is an old mechanical
postal scale. :D

My scale just showed 2 pounds 0.4 oz on a similar (.058 though)
Tsumura branded bar - so I guess it isn't that far off.
