Just thought of something. Couldn't it be a 371 tank on a 372xpg
? I dont know what the difference in the 2 tanks would be to
       know.

Well I got one question. I just finished putting everything back
together on the 372xpg last night and I was short 1 ring. I
know racers and hot woods ported saws go with top ring and leave
       bottom ring out.
What would it hurt on a work saw to leave the bottom ring out
till I get inside it again with new rings?

IMO. That second ring is just along for the ride anyhow.

Running other 372's now sure makes me appreciate how that PP372
       ran.
1 top ring for now on 50mm piston. Breaking in at 13K and some
dull stihl rs chain in 3/8 and 8T sprocket rim. Wood is some
punky old poplar I have laying on hand to use.

All I use for my main saw in my tree service now is my 372XP
with 16" b/c. I always have on hand a 22" b/c if needed but not
very often I need it. The 395- 32" will handle the bigger stuff
and my little 338XPT with .325 chisel on narrow kerf 13" bar
does my main aerial work. My 346XP NE stays at home.
The 372 is a superb saw with the quick nice handling 16" b/c.
Also alot less rocking out the chain with the short bar too,
touch up with the file is quick. I'm itching to try out a
562XP when available to replace the 346.
My older brother raced Jonsered 80s in the 1970s with the
bottom ring removed, won him alot of races.
       Willard.

Willard, what would be the advantage of just using that single
       ring?
371/2 prolly the best saws ever built?

Advantage of the single ring is less friction making higher rpm.
The disadvantage is durabilty and a slight gain of crankcase
volume but the added rpm / hp makes up for the difference,
especially if only used for a short chainsaw race.
Yes the 371/372 has come along ways from the 266/268/272. That
little extra stroke length of the 372 seems to be the final
design improvement along with the air injection that makes these
       saws so strong.
BTW I know a fellow down the street who has a brand new 1992
272XP that has never cut a stick of wood. Once a year he idles
it for a few minutes to keep it limbered up. I'm tempted to buy
       it from him.
       Willard.

Since Willard failed to share pics with you. I will tease you
even more with the pics of the saw. ;)
