Finally located a NIB Solo 681!
By: KilliansRedLeo Date: August 21, 2013, 7:47 am

After reading all the threads here on the 681 and its crankshaft
problems. I am wondering if I should suggest to my customer that
he might want to consider choosing another saw?
I can't seem to find any information e.g. years and serial
numbers of saws that had bad cranks, nor can I find any info
that the problem was ever cured.
Anyone have any useful information on how I might tell if the
saw is prone to crank failure?
Local distributer has three NIB saws, don't know if they are new
production or not. Will speak to him later in the week after I
get more info from the rest of the members.

An alternative to the 681 is the Makita/Dolmar 7900

Talk to Dozerdan (Dan Henry) he is the one that posted about all
       the crank failures in 681.

Come to think about it. I remember a guy telling me he bought 3
solos when baileys was clearing them out and set them back years
ago. I havent talked to him in a long time though.

Thank you, I had already discovered that thread. It is what
       prompted my OP.

Buy one for me and I'll tell you first hand if the crank will
       hold up to some alky/nitro...
