Crank Bearings

This is to try and make a list of crank bearings that can be
gotten outside of oe. we all know how expensive they can be.
*SKF explorer 6202 Jem Metal cage = Stihl part #9503 003 0346
Models-034,036,044,046,440,460,461- Flywheel side
= Husky
part #738 22 02-25 Models-371xp,372xp,346xp. used as both fly
and clutch on some models.
*Also based on my measurements they should also work on stihl
model-021,023,025,038,041,042,048,210,230,250,251.
sthil has them listed as a different part number.
*Stihl 660 clutch side is oem only. that is what my bearing
place said, they are only for sale in japan. Part #9523 003 4555
*SKF explorer 6203 Jem metal cage = Stihl part #9503 003 6676
Models-066,084,088,650,660,880-Flywheel side.
That is all i have for now will post more as i find out, if any
one else has numbers feel free to post away. hope this helps,

Would it be wise to add seals to this thread as well or start a

I would do bearing and seals in separate threads. JMO.
You guys doing it do what you want. I can fix it if need be when
needed if you want.

What you will find if you really delve into it is the design of
most Stihls The transistion from the crank to the output shaft
is radiused rather than a square corner .As such it is a much
sronger crank shaft but because of design requires also a
radiused internal bearing .Of which specically Stihl owns the
entire rights to from every reputable bearing manufacturer in
the world .

So you are saying that you can only run oe crank bearing, or am
I missing what you are saying.

No what I'm saying is sometimes a standard metric bearing will
fit on the flywheel side .However often is the case that the
clutch side takes a specially cut bearing .That bearing as to
it's manufacture from any bearing manufactures such as FAG,SKF
,Fafnir etc is controlled by Stihl by patent rights .
Ths is not to say that somebody else might have copied it .I do
know this if you take that bearing number to any bearing
warehouse such as Dixie Bearing ,Kaman Bearing etc it cannot be
ordered and sold directly to you .You must go through a dealer.
Just as a tid bit of information this type of controll of repair
parts is not Stihls great idea ,Having worked around German made
machine tools it seems to be standard a operating practice on a
majority of stuff originating from Germany .

I am following along now. That is why they told me no dice on
the clutch side bearing. At least we can get the flywheel side
at a reasonable price.

I noticed my poulan 330 3750 etc etc rebuilds used the same
bearing as the 372 rebuilds. About $10 difference per bearing.

The 6202 is probably the most popular crank bearing in a
chainsaw

FWIW I have the master interchange book of bearings and seals
published by Bearings Inc .If the number of the OEM is in that
book they can be ordered .If not it's OEM only .
I've been down this road and highly annoyed about paying the
price but have just bitten the bullet after many dead end
streets so to speak .
Husqvarna on the other hand builds stuff like US manufacturers
using mostly standard off the shelf parts .
