       Stihl 440 044
By: Chainsawrepair Date: June 24, 2013, 6:48 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Well I am finally going to get my hands on a stihl ms440. ;D

Guy from work called and wants me to go through his 440 after
losing a battle with a tree today. He stated the rear handle
tank etc is busted for sure.
So who has the used 440 graveyard for parts? Just so I know
where else to look when getting the parts list together.

the 044/ms440 is my absolute favorite saw. almost as light as a
50cc and packs a punch of a bigger saw.
chances are if you sit it on a shelf covered by a clean rag, it
       will repair itself ;D

He didnt own a 440 last time he was at the house ::). My
poulan 3750 whooping up on his stihl 310 must have been to much
       for him. ;D

now you just need a 5200 to put him back in his place when the
440 get back up and running 8)

The last 440 tank/handle i needed i ended up buying a new one.
Used on ebay were close to a hundred bucks and new was around
       125. I will never figure out why no aftermarket 440 or o44
plastic as popular as that saw is

Dont need to cheat with a 85cc poulan against his 70.7cc. I
would put my poulan 445 70.7cc against it. ;)

I need one myself to put together the last of the three I picked
up. 2 up and running. I been watching em on Ebay for a while
agree on $100 used no cracks etc. My Dealer wants around $125 +
7% NC fee. Probably going to just get a new one if I can't do a
"Redneck" fix on the old one. This one I'm porbably going to
keep for a "Toy" allready WP an AM cyl for it. I have several
cyl (no decomp) that should cleanup if anybody needs one send
       PM.

Took a hit from smashed muffler to broken rear handle and tank.
Can someone get me a pic of the front lower crankcases half
mating areas on the 440 please. Swear this one looks off in
       that area.

going from memory, it's been about 2 years since i last ran one.
are you talking about the area about an 1.5" down from the
muffler? sort of looks like it was split open directly in front
       of the av? :)
