Poulan Pro 400E 4hp or 400es ???
I've been keeping one of these going for a friend at work
whenever she has problems. I'm pretty freaking amazed with it.
It's power has me scared to make her up a loop of PS3 for it
though.

Poulan Pro 400E it has 4 hp on side.
I just got another one in and says not turning. They now have a
gas saw so this poulan corded electric is mine for helping them
out. Just hope I can fix whatever has it locked up.

Been following you on this topic on the FB page, so I guess it
is time to mosey over here, to the 'real' site.
I have about a dozen electric chainsaws; mostly because they go
for 'stupid cheap' prices at garage sales. A lot of the older
Craftsman branded electric (and many gas) chainsaws were
re-branded Poulans. The ones I have are mostly older than the
one you have pictured.
Very simple saws. Add bar oil. Keep the chain sharp. Press
the trigger. If it stops running, probably either the cord
pulled out of the outlet, or you tripped a breaker. Of course,
there can be wear / maintenance issues with brushes or a bad
switch. But unless it has been abused, much simpler than a gas
saw.
The chain speed is typically slower than a gas saw, but they
will cut through 'real wood', and do 'real work', if you let
them do the work. They are also capable of 'real kickback' and
causing 'real injuries' if you are not careful - some people
think of them as toys, and do not realize that they are 'live'
when plugged in - they do not hear the loud engine noises, so
they playfully pull the trigger with the bar scabbard still on,
or without regard to which way the chain is pointing! Just use
basic care when operating.
Make sure to use an appropriate sized extension cord for the
motor. I would run that 13A saw with a 100 foot 14 gauge cord
(even though the manual says 'No'). I use a 100 foot 12 gauge
cord with my 15 A electric saws.
Photo shows real work I have done with other electric chainsaws.

This one has a working chain brake. First I have seen of the
ones I have had and came through in past.
It shuts off when chain brake trips.

I don't know if all of the newer saws do, but the better
electric saws have mechanical chain brakes, just like the gas
saws. They are interlocked to shut off the power as well.
Some of them also have an electric chain brake, that stops the
chain as soon as the trigger is released - no coasting!
One of my battery saws (Oregon CS300) also has an 'idiot alarm'
on the chain brake: it beeps if you press the trigger with the
chain brake engaged! Sounds a little silly, but I have wasted
some time 'trouble shooting' circuits, GFCI's, and breaker
boxes, only to find the chain brake engaged on one of my
cordless electric saws!

Just cleaned and tested. Oiler working too. Was worried after
that one video on good bad with them.
When chain brake trips it is instant off and no coast of chain.
It locks up the spur right now like.
