Special 6 sided star type tool socket
By: Chainsawrepair Date: March 15, 2013, 2:01 pm

What are they called and where would I find them?
OK I am to the point of replacing ignation switch in 02 sunfire
and ran into a stumbling block. The 02 bottom panel bolts cant
be flipped over to use (like in a video of a 96 model) to remove
the very tiny 6 star shaped 2 bolts holding the ign switch on.
What size is these special little 6 sided star type bolt heads
and tool needed? It would be a female tool to remove. Nothing I
       have comes close.
I had a 4mm regular socket (just to try and gauge size) and it
even fits over the 6 sided star. So it is tiny tiny tiny. :'(

       inverted torx star.

They are a type of "tamper proof " fastener .McMaster Carr
       probabley has them .
I have a set of tamper proof tools at work we use to work on
safety lock out machine gates that contains a few plus about
25-30 other popular sizes .Made by Wiha of Germany.

If you have a spare just heat a piece of metal tubing with an
oxy torch and hammer it over the head and presto instant
socket,,, I have done this with a number of odd shaped fasteners
then you have a home made tube spanner they don't always last
but usually get the job done,,, possibly same result could be
had by hammering the right size torx bit into the heated tube
just something that works for me

I checked it out at work but I won't post anything through the
companys' internet system .They call that thing an inverted torx
.You can get a cheap set through flea bay for under 20 bucks or
pay 150 plus for a Snap-On or Mac set .
