Got JD 450V in and I think I am going to like. Hadnt been
started in years he said. Poured old mix out put fresh in and 3
pulls ;D
I'll get some pics in a bit.
Just saving info.......
Here is the schematic;

Manufactured from 1985-1987. 45cc, 11.2lbs. Carb; HDA-28 later
model show a WT-589 but Im thinking that may be a misprint.
.325 chain.
Should have a two piece ignition;
Primary Coil Resistance: 0.1 - 0.5 Ohms
Secondary Coil Resistance: 1.5 - 2.5 (K) Ohms
Operating Speed: 7,000 - 9,500 RPM
Idling Speed: 2,500 - 2,800 RPM
Bolt on cylinder with a magnesium crankcase, not a clamshell
engine design. Early ones had no chain brake, just a hand
guard. If you have the latter model that has the chain brake
and need the handle send me a PM.

Hello,
Have three of them and one sold to a good friend. They are good
reliable saws. The only weak point i discovered is the fixation
of the bar studs. They are mounted with a square had between two
magnesium rails in the wall of the oil tank. Had to replace one
right crankcase half because of a big crack around the bar stud.
In my opinion it could not happen at normal use but i have seen
two with bar stud problems. The one with the crack, one with a
lose stud not pointing out in a 90 degree angle.
It are well starting machines, higher in rpm then the EVL
models, easy to work on and not heavy. It is my first choice
universal saw, always running. A nice feature is the little
handknob to ajust the idle. Like them a lot.
Greetings from Holland
Jos.
I just put on a 18" 325 carlton new out of box semi chisel and
sunk it in some hard maple with 7T rim :o :o This little 45cc
echo reminds me of a OE 346xp 45cc in handling weight and speed
in the cut. If not maybe a little more torque going to the echo
4500 jd 450 8) wish I still had a stock OE around to
compare to.
I tuned it to 13.2k to 13.5k out of the wood and was wondering
if anyone knows what the max rpm is for this?
It acts just like the OE 346 blipping and quick spool up and
all. This saw will not be leaving my stable cheaply.
Heck NOT even muffler modded yet. Really IMO it dont need it.
CYLINDER BORE:
43 mm (1.693 in.)
PISTON STROKE:
31 mm (1.220 in.)
Oh out of my stupidly (hitting another log passed the log I was
cutting with the tip) I found out the chain brake does work and
it saved me even though it didnt reach my head. But dang it was
one of those wake up moments.

I found another JD 450 yellow one needing some love.
Just wondering if the newer echo cs-450 parts will work on the
4500 saws? Looks like the echo 4000 and 5000 may swap some
parts also?
Will any bigger cc tops work?
Pics of saw I will be buying to set back and fix.
