       Oleo-Mac 985HD & Oleo-Mac 999F

I'm curious as to what the forum members think of the Oleo-Mac
       985HD and 999F chainsaws.
How do they compare to other saws in the same engine capacity.
From what i can see the 985HD has a brilliant air filter system
and the 999F looks like a nice alternative to a Husqvarna 395 or
       a Stihl 066.

Gypo AKA John Lambert had a 999 that everybody and his brother
tinkered with .It was set up as a torquey miller at one time and
had plenty of grunt .Big Dave reworked it to gain a little speed
       which it did .
I mean the thing had some grunt but actually if it would outdo
an 066 or a Huskey 2100 it's hard to say .Definately a saw
worth acquiring if you could find one .That brand is just
something we in these parts are totally ignorant about because
they simplely did not exist .

These Oleo-Mac chainsaws have a serious air filter system. If
only Stihl and Husqvarna could make such a decent air filter.
In ways, they look a lot like early Solo chainsaws - 670 -680
       and 690- 603 series.

Filter reminds me of the HD air filter option on the dolmar 7900
       now days.
Was there a standard air filter set up and HD filter option on
the 2 you posted above too?
I've only seen a 999 around here and they seemed to weigh a ton.

Those air filters are totally standard equipment - quite
impressive to see an automotive style air filter on a chainsaw.
The 999F uses a 3 element filter with a removable and washable
       outer filter element.

Does anyone know what the piston pin diameter is for an Oleo-Mac
       999F.
From what i understand the piston is 56mm in diameter which is
exactly the same as the Solo 603.
I am trying to find a replacement piston for the 603 but it has
       a 12mm wrist pin diameter. I'm hoping the 999F also has a 12mm
wrist pin diameter and similar piston dimensions to the 603.

If memory serves me correctly old Gyp was going to replace the
piston in his 999 but the danged piston was like 150 bucks .So
I'm thinking it's kind of a toss up of which is harder to find
parts for ,the big Oleo or the big Solo .
Stick all the parts in a box and remember where you put it and
eventually some day when you least expect it the parts will pop
up .That's kind of the way it goes most times .
