Stihl 034
By: Cut4fun Date: March 8, 2011, 1:16 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Took in a stihl 034 with what appears to be a MS360 rear handle
tank section with flippy cap.
My question is do I need to find a 360 air filter cover or will
the 034 air filter cover fit the 360 carb area. Reason i ask the
034 carb cover goes on crooked on the 360.
I cant find weight specs etc on the 034av 034 super 036 etc?
Also when did the 036 go to flippy caps?

I think you will need a 340 or 360 cover. I think I tried a 036
on a 360 and it would not fit. I have tried so many things I get
mixed up in the head however.

Any difference in 034 036 360 air filters? This one already has
a 036 top end put on it by last owner. 8)

Other than change to comp carb and filter /box change from knob
to lever I don't remember.
Vent style may be an issue from early to late models also. Will
have to look through the boxes of parts.

I took a quick look see between working on a car today >:( .
Has a Tilley carb I think I read on top of carb, no snorkel and
like new air filter without any extra holes except for carb
body. Air filter cover round knob twisted onto air filter. Air
filter cover slid on perfect.
Just air filter cover and top cylinder cover set at weird angle
to each other.
Everything looks straight on 360 rear handle lining up with
034av crankcase.
Did notice throttle linkage was only going about 75%-80% with
butterfly tilted WOT. I re-bent the linkage and bet she run even
better now with full throttle.
Will dig deeper later on cockeyed covers. ???

Its starting to come back to me now. The cover will not fit
without some grinding. Did that for one of my wood customers.
But can't remember what I ground, saw or cover. Too many
concusions are not good.

It runs and cuts good. So that is all that really matters.
It's just eating at me to know WHY the covers are setting
cockeyed. Everything seems in order.
I will take a pic or 2 when things slow up.

The air filter is brand new .It's an 034 filter .I have a new
036 filter I got from Baileys but it did not fit .
If I'd have thought about I would have brought the old 034
cylinder with me to see exactly what might be different as to
why that danged cover is atilt .

I'm just trying to figure it out Al out of curiosity. I cant see
anything wrong that would cause the tilt myself.

It befuddled me too . The fins are slightly different and maybe
the top cover for the 036 has that little stud over farther to
the center is all I could figure .When it had the 034 cylinder
it set dead straight .
