Husqvarna 455

First one of these I have had come in.

Issues pouring bar oil out when tipped on the side to fill.
Looked and coming from behind metal bar plate.
Not oiling bar. Seen that fix right off. Plastic gear looks
stripped and owner painted bar and the paint in mount area has
balled up and filled bar oiler hole. Plastic oiler gear is
being pita to remove. I think this one has melted and isnt
coming off like normal 346 etc ones would being so simple.
Chain brake not working. This one puzzles me. The big spring
inside the clutch cover has some how come out of cover and was
laying inside. Cant find any hole etc where it made it's exit.
Any tricks for getting this spring back in place. I'm having
a PITA of a time and just came in to look at IPL and service
manuals a little.

I replaced the brake in a 350 cover a couple years ago and it
was a lot harder to get the spring in than on a 372.
You have to mount the cover in your big vice with some rags so
you don't scratch the paint.
You need to use some device that sticks inside the spring to
keep the spring from buckling out. Like a screwdriver that has
part of the shank cut off.
It takes both hands and all your strength.
After you get the plastic cover on the spring to keep it from
jumping out, you need a way to release the brake so you can get
the brake band over the clutch drum.
I removed the brake handle from the chainsaw and used it with
the cover stihl in the vice to release the brake.
Then everything went together and all was forgiven and I was,
from then on, a new man. I had the service manual and had
followed the instructions.

I got the spring in after 30-40 mins ;D. I still dont see how
it got out. ???
Oil leak is from a hole into oil tank right in front of metal
plate.
Oiler gear was melted to the crankshaft. :o Not anymore. ;)

Trick for cover and spring. I removed the clutch drum and set
inside the cover the way it normally would inside the brake
band.
Then installed spring how you mentioned on your 350. Put plastic
on. Put cover on saw and drum onto crankshaft, with handle still
on saw and engaged brake handle to open brake band. 8) :P

??? This 455 has oregon chain with 80 on the drive link? What
is this chain with 80, never seen that one.
Bar is 1.3mm 050 and guessing 325 didnt really pay attention.
I just found searching a husky labeled chain in 3/8 050 H80.
Would this be the chain with 80 on the drive links that I
thought was a 325 chain? Guess I better look closer at this
chain.

With any luck and the local husky dealer has a worm gear in
stock. I could be done with this saw tomorrow.
I pulled the oil pump to get to the worm gear better and had to
take it off in pieces being it was melted to the crank and
really brittle from the heat.
Thanks to Al Smith for the micro finishing stuff I used to clean
the crank up with for a smooth finish after removing the most of
the plastic bits melted to it.
Hole in oil tank I used some steel putty and putting seal all on
top of that.
I havent run it yet. But I really like how these saws are put
together compared to the 290-390 series by stihl.

Oh checked the chain and bar closer while I was out there. 3/8
050 72dl b+c.

I totally agree. 029 I did took me twice as long as a 455 I put
rings in. 455 is a decent saw IMO mine never fails to start
and cut wood. Bought it new in 2002 before I got into saws. I
only had 3. Would not buy one new now. Mine still has original
chain on it about half used.
