Solo 665-681 AV Springs
By: farmboy Date: July 30, 2012, 9:00 am
---------------------------------------------------------
The AV mounts on my 665/681 are real mushy. Read to change them
using Dolmar 6400-7900 AV mounts. Got a set from Pat's (30 days
to get NOT happy). The kit PN 010 1140 39 comes with the screw
allready installed in the right front. The rear ones don't have
the mt. screws factory installed. Problem is I can't get the
spring to unscrew from the cap to put the screws in. I've tried
channellock's, clamping spring in the vise. And a few
explicatives for Dolmar. They should just put the screw in @
the factory. Any suggestions/tricks?

Right rear (clutch side) AV mount screw is larger than the
Dolmar screw. Wound up cutting it out. Trimmed head so it
would go in Dolmar AV.
Stripped the hole wound up not mattering as SIL dropped tree on
tank and broke it.

[/quote]It is a mute point now but . . . when you try to unscrew
those springs, they grip onto the plastic and will not come off
for anything.
You must go to the end of the coil that is over the plastic and
push the spring unwound from the very end of the coil with a
flat nose punch so as pushing on the end loosens the spring.
Whereas if you were trying to screw it off from the outside, you
would be tightening the coils onto the plastic.
Look in the repair manual at the spring removal tool for a
Husqvarna 372 and see how it is made?
