       Wiccan Prayer at Iowa House

       I'm sure you all heard that Iowa had asked a Wiccan Priestess to
       perform the prayer at one of their meetings.  There is a
       transcript of the prayer at the end of this article, and it
       really is quite lovely.
       Unfortunately, many of the legislators and other citizens were
       close-minded and either actively prayed against the priestess,
       sat in "silent protest" (because that's what Jesus would do,
       according to one man) or they didn't even bother to attend.
       It seems only a few actually supported the decision to have a
       Wiccan prayer, even though prayers from other religions (Jewish
       or Islamic, specifically) had not been met with the same
       resistance.
       But, and this is a big BUT, it is a step in the right direction,
       and the only way for Pagans to be accepted as a valid religious
       group is to continue these sorts of educational events.  Though
       not designed to be educational, specifically, having a Wiccan
       prayer is a chance to allow 'regular' people to see that we're
       not all that different from them.
