Federer coming up to big part of the season for him, Basel,
Paris (maybe), World Tour Finals,
and DAVIS CUP FINAL vs. France at Lille on clay..
General Hercules, Lady TT, and the others, Roger is already
practicing on the red dirt back in Switzerland.
Interesting, Roger must be trying to get the ground game in good
shape and he used the hash-tag grinding in his tweet, so he must
be trying to get even more fit, even after winning Shanghai. He
says he isn't really thinking about it, but I think he's also
gunning for Year End #1.
Will be interesting to see how he plays on the hard courts after
practicing on clay
Meanwhile, here is Rafa also on Oct 15, practicing on his
indoor hard court in Manacor for Basel. From the interview with
Toni and Rafa, it seems that they are going to see how things go
in Basel, before making decision on whether to play Paris, or go
for the surgery on his appendix.

Draw out - in first post.
2 qualies in Rafa's section along with ERV, Gulbis in his
quarter and Raonic/Goffin in his semis.
Federer with potentially Janowicz in his section, Dimitrov in
quarters, Wawrinka/Karlovic in the semis.
Should be a good first rounder with Pospisil and Nieminen.
Kukushkin is playing pretty well lately, might give Wawrinka a
battle in the 1st round.

Why clay? Which tournament is on clay? The Davis Cup.
Going for YE#1 is a great goal, and with the way he's playing I
don't put it past him. This is really phenomenal, no two ways
about it. I doubt we'll ever see this again. A 32 year old
playing tennis this way.
As to Rafa, I'm still mad at him. Health should always come
first and taking unnecessary risks is not smart.

Rafa looks weak, unhealthy, and unfit.
why doesn't he go get himself fixed first and then fix his
fitness?
how can he tolerate these endless string of injuries and
conditions? what the hell is he proving?

I agree. I don't know what he hopes to gain by pushing an
already depleted physical state. He almost looked punch drunk at
the beginning of that match. Bollelli played horrible, but there
will be many looking to take his scalp.

this is still a fairly tough draw lady TT.
goffin has been playing well all year. Roger is always a huge
threat.
and then there is Milos.
here is the draw again:

Both Federer and Nadal advanced quite easily today while
Dimitrov struggled. Not counting Dimitrov much really given
Federer's hometown. He'll probably melt away should they meet.
Raonic could be tough but he has to feel very confident about
his game. Not sure where that is right now.

Federer won his 6th Basel title today, defeating a bit tired
looking David Goffin in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, and the
scoreline was probably closer than the play. David's only
chance to hang in would have been to put 75% of his serves in.
He didn't, only 49%. Roger was imperious. Hitting forehands,
backhands, volleys, serve all very crisply. 19-11 W/UE for
Federer. almost the reverse for Goffin (11/20). Goffin was
just overpowered and well-schooled in indoor tennis.

Federer's play looks ominous for the end of the year. Paris is
next. A bit of a tough first round possibly with Chardy who has
given Roger trouble at times, but if Roger is not tired from
Basel, his form looks too good to lose to Chardy this time.
