The Lesson of the Fig Tree

The Lesson of the Fig
What materials were the first clothing of Adam and Eve made of?
At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt
shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to
cover themselves. Genesis 3:7
Here are some fact about the fig tree:
* It is the most mentioned fruit/tree in the Bible
* The fruit is actually an inverted flower
* It produces two harvest per year and fruits for approximately
one hundred years
*It's a small tree, measuring up to 25 ft.
The benefits of the fig tree:
* contains amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and minerals and
antioxidant
* potassium helps with blood pressure
* fig leaves reduces the amount of insulin dose
* reduces risk of breast cancer
* helps with bone density
* helps with insomnia
* help with fatigue and increases memory power
* anemia
* skin
* laxative, hemorrhoids
* indigestion
* reduces cholesterol
* aphrodisiac
King Hezekiah was cured by an ointment made from figs, 2 Kings
10:1-7.
Parable of the Barren Fig Tree (Luke 13:6-9)
Then Jesus told this story: “A man planted a fig tree in
his garden and came again and again to see if there was any
fruit on it, but he was always disappointed. Finally, he said
to his gardener, ‘I’ve waited three years, and there
hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just
taking up space in the garden.’ “The gardener
answered, ‘Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another
year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of
fertilizer. If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you
can cut it down."
Man represents God, the Father
Fruits represents faith, deeds, repentance, baptism
Gardener represents Jesus, who intercedes for us and gives us
ample opportunity to repent. But be warned, we will be cut off
if no fruits are found in us.
This parable is connected with the miracle of the fig tree that
was cursed by Jesus in Mark 11:12-14 and Mark 11:20-24. On two
occasions Jesus taught his Disciples, using the example of fig.
One was in words, Luke 13:6-9, and the other was in action, Mark
11: 12-14, 20-24.
By not having fruit this tree was cursed! A total destruction of
the fig tree! Those who do not produce fruit will not eat fruit
from the tree in the future. This serves as a living warning
about the judgment to come.
The fact that the cleansing of the temple is between the two
parts of the cursed fig account, you can highlight the subject
of the judgment. The only implication that Jesus makes on this
occasion is an example of faith, prayer and forgiveness:
"Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I
tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you
be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen.
But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in
your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you
believe that you've received it, it will be yours. But when you
are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge
against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins,
too," Mark 11: 22-26.
We must, as children of God, give good fruits. These fruits
must feed and nourish! We can not be that cursed barren fig
tree and appear to be christians, children of God.

Wow fancymeny or Carmen?
This is good stuff. I never understood the parable about the fig
tree to this extent before. I am saving this for future
reference and to share with my friends.
It really makes you think about what we're supposed to be doing,
at all times.

Yes it did, Carmen.
I use a study bible and they give examples of what the bible is
talking about that makes it easier to understand. Your rendition
of the fig tree made me remember a sermon my pastor used
explaining that.
It had been years ago, so my memory was fuzzy.
I'm glad you brought it back to my remembrance. Having those
notes really helps.

I have had a few hand painted but these are special prints.
I designed the image on the computer and then I had somebody in
southwest china print the images.
of course they had to be on heart shaped fig leaves which I
arranged for in advance.
