Maricann Gets Canadian License To Produce Cannabis Oil
By Rick Schettino
Nov 22, 2017
Burlington-based Canadian oil manufacturer Maricann has hopes to
sell their VesiSorb THC and CBD oil tablets across the world.
They’ll be able to begin in Canada early in 2018, after
announcing in a November 20 release that they’ve been granted a
production license by Health Canada.
The company expects their oil capsules to be available in the
first quarter of 2018, subject to Health Canada’s issuance of
their license to sell.
“Vaporizing and smoking aren’t something people new to cannabis
are familiar or comfortable with, so we believe that providing
them with a treatment option in a delivery format they
understand is compelling,” Maricann CEO Ben Ward said in a
release.
“Cannabinoids are nearly insoluble in water,” Ward also said.
“Their poor solubility and low dissolution rate in the aqueous
gastrointestinal fluids and significant first-pass liver
metabolism result in low and unpredictable oral cannabinoid
bioavailability.
"Consequentially, cannabinoids will require high doses to reach
therapeutic plasma concentrations, especially when ingested. At
Maricann, we are focused on formulations that actually
potentiate the components of the cannabis plant.”
VesiSorb tablets, which deliver precise dosages in a standard
pharmaceutical industry capsule form, have been approved for
non-cannabis uses by Health Canada, the US Food and Drug
Administration and European Medicines Agency.
