I am going to call it the achievement of the century because
that is just about how long it took after Fred Perry for a man
from the United Kingdom to come and take the highly coveted
Wimbledon crown.
it had to be andy murray and it had to over nole who was the
game's best player at #1 at the time.

this is truly monumental stuff for the sport of tennis. it gave
the sport another shot in the arm.

Do you know that Fred Perry is buried at the all england lawn
tennis club? (wimbledon tennis)
Before they buid the roof he was buried under the ground of
centrecourt. Now he is laying in front of centrecourt. I meant
that much!

I have to agree. That was a monumental monkey on someone's back.
Being a top player just exacerbated the problem. I wanted it so
badly for Murray, and am glad that he was able to fight his way
through that.
Sometimes people lose sight that these athletes, celebrities,
etc. are still human.
But he handled himself, the situation, and his disappointments
so well.
Andy is such a class act. His triumph was well deserved.

I agree, CD.
So many times people forget that these athletes and celebrities
are human just like us. They put them into these ridiculously
gilded cages and expect the superhuman from them.
It's hard to even fathom the pressure that Andy was under, being
a top player, and playing with three all time greats. I mean,
Tim hadn't done it and the future was looking bleak until Andy
came on tour.
Still, he handled it with such class and aplomb. He continued to
work towards the goal, not even knowing in one slam was in him,
let alone breaking that duck.
A class act, that Andy is. Yes he is.

he is clearly one of the most down to earth players out there. I
think his global appeal is going to skyrocket. we have seen
nothing yet.

Wow - really? I had no idea. Did he want to be buried there?
What is the history behind it?
Also, have you noticed the eerie similarities between Andy and
Fred? I once posted it on tennis4u. It's possible Fred is back
as Andy and it will be only because his love for tennis never
really died.
