Live ATP Rankings

The Live ATP rankings thread is here. ;D
Here is the legend for the color code and display mode of the
table.
- The table displays current ranking standings by calculating
the number of points dropped at the end of the period mentioned
on the head table (the next official ATP rankings date).
- The Drop column details the number of points for all the
tournaments that will be taken out of the player's rankings.
Multiple tournaments may be dropped for each player, but the
tournament with the most points dropped will determine the color
of the drop points. For instance, 180 Wimbledon dropped along
with 45 ATP 250 in the week after Wimbledon will result in 225
colored in red (Grand Slam color).
- The Gain column displays the total number of points the player
has raised at the current tournament.
- The Effective column is the exact number of points the player
will win or lose at the next official ranking. The total here is
calculated based on all tournaments dropped and all tournaments
played (GS qualies, Futures and all other tournaments that will
be counted at the next official rankings). The color is
determined again by the tournament with most points.
- The second Points column is for the next week after the
current week. When no Grand Slam is being played, all current
Futures tournaments are first counted there, since they won't be
part of the rankings until a week later. Also, all next week's
qualifiers will be counted there.
- In all weeks an additional Incoming Futures column is being
displayed, along with the total tournament count calculated in
advance so that the players with the same number of points are
separated properly.
- During Grand Slam qualies another column with the points made
there (not yet Live) is added. And during Grand Slams, another
column with the points from the tournament is added in case a
player goes to another tournament after the GS or GS qualies,
but before the next official rankings.
- In the detailed week by week part of the table, you will
encounter -1 points for certain players. Those tournaments are
actually the tournaments in which the player has received a
0-point penalty for retiring or for not completing at least 4
ATP 500 tournaments in a year.
The colors used as background inside the table mean:
[COLOR=Green]Green[/COLOR] - The player is currently not
eliminated from the Main Draw.
[COLOR=Red]Red[/COLOR] - The player was eliminated from the Main
Draw or Qualifying Draw.
[COLOR=Blue]Blue[/COLOR] - The player is currently playing on
the Qualifying Draw.
[COLOR=DarkOrange]Orange[/COLOR] - The player has retired from
any match.
[COLOR=Gray]Gray[/COLOR] - The player has withdrawn from the
tournament, but will incur a 0-point penalty. This will be noted
as a -1 in case of ATP 500 events, and 0 in case of ATP 1000.
This is due to the fact that ATP 1000 events are recognized as
Mandatory by the system, while ATP 500 events are not, and there
needs to be a difference between regular 0 (first round loss)
and mandatory 0 (penalty).
White - The player currently does not participate in a
tournament.
The colors used for text inside the table mean:
[COLOR=Red]Red[/COLOR] - The player is/was on a Grand Slam Main
Draw
[COLOR=Orange]Regular orange [/COLOR]- The player is/was on a
ATP 1000 Mandatory Masters Main Draw
[COLOR=Yellow]Light orange[/COLOR] - The player is/was on a ATP
1000 Optional (MC) Masters Main Draw
[COLOR=DarkRed]Maroon[/COLOR] - The player is/was on the ATP
Tour Finals Main Draw
[COLOR=Green]Green[/COLOR] - The player is/was on a ATP 500 Main
Draw
[COLOR=Olive]Olive [/COLOR]- The player is/was on the Olympics
Main Draw
[COLOR=Purple]Purple[/COLOR] - The player is/was on a ATP 250
Main Draw
[COLOR=Plum]Plum[/COLOR] - The player is/was on the World Team
Championships tournament
[COLOR=DeepSkyBlue]Sky Blue[/COLOR] - The player participated in
the Davis Cup
[COLOR=Teal]Teal[/COLOR] - The player is/was on the ATP
Challenger Finals
[COLOR=Blue]Blue[/COLOR] - The player is/was on a Challenger
Main Draw
[COLOR=Navy]Navy[/COLOR] - The player is/was on a 15K Futures
Main Draw
[COLOR=Black]Black[/COLOR] - The player is/was on a 10K Futures
Main Draw
[COLOR=SlateGray]Gray[/COLOR] - The player participates on the
Qualifying Draw of any tournament
[COLOR=Silver]Silver[/COLOR] - The player does not participate
in a tournament
[U][B]Live Rankings Update Schedule:[/B][/U]
[B][COLOR=Green]Once every 2 hours[/COLOR][/B] on an
[COLOR=Red]uneven GMT time (e.g. 11 AM GMT) during northern
hemisphere DST[/COLOR] or [COLOR=Blue]even GMT time (e.g. 10 AM
GMT) during northern hemisphere non-DST[/COLOR]. The update
starts at the second minute of the hour and usually finishes
between the tenth and the twentieth minute, so that is when you
can safely refresh the OP image.
[B][U]Live Rankings Week Change Schedule:[/U][/B]
On an official rankings Monday, the live rankings will show the
official rankings until around midday. The last regular update
for Monday is scheduled at [COLOR=Red]9 AM GMT[/COLOR].
The week change procedure starts at 9:30 AM GMT and lasts around
2 hours. The first new week update is scheduled at either
[COLOR=Red]11:30 AM GMT or 1 PM GMT[/COLOR].
Take note. [COLOR=Blue]If Monday finals are played for Grand
Slam level, ATP level or Challenger level tournaments, the
update is delayed until all finals are finished.[/COLOR]
[COLOR=Green]If Monday finals are played for Futures level
tournaments, the update is delayed by 2 hours (11 AM GMT, 11:30
AM GMT start of procedure, 3 PM GMT first update).[/COLOR]
In both cases, between 9:30 AM GMT and the time of the start of
the week change procedures, updates of the rankings will be
performed [B]hourly[/B].
[B][U]Live Rankings Power Failures:[/U][/B]
In case a power failure or any other reason turns the
operational computer off, the live rankings updates stop until
the computer is back online. To help this to happen
automatically, the computer now has the feature to turn itself
[B]back on[/B] everyday at [COLOR=Red]6 PM GMT DST or 7 PM GMT
non-DST[/COLOR], provided that power comes back by the time.
Once the computer turns back on, it is programmed to restart the
live rankings updates with the first regularly scheduled
operation.

I think nole will lose his #1 rank this year. there is a lot to
defend still.
he has to make the final of the u.s. open which I don't see
happening.
he has to defend WTF. I think andy murray will return recharged
and refurbished for that.
and roger is always a huge threat at WTF.

can nadal hold on to this for a while?
he has nothing to defend at the Australian open and also at
Wimbledon.

Would be interesting to see a short No. 1 streak for once. A few
World No. 1 changes for a while is good for the sport. We also
desperately need a new World No. 1, but Nadal and Djokovic just
won't have it. ;D

there is such a history of domination in this sport. a handful
of players have dominated the sport.
in overall scheme of things, there have not really many players
who have achieved the top rank of #1.

Excellent and welcome thread. Thanks Marv.
I'm "predicting" Nadal will hold #1 for about 43 weeks (until
just after the US Open). If he does well at Wimbledon, it will
obviously be longer. If he does poorly at the Australian Open
or Roland Garros and some of the other Jan-June tournaments he
might lose it between Wimbledon and the US Open. But who the
heck really knows. As we've seen things can change in tennis in
just 6 months.
Historically, Rafa seems to be on an approximate 14 month on
and 7 month off cycle. So he's been on for over 8 months now.
If he continues his pattern of rather heavy play, even on hard
courts, he may do well into the Australian Open, but I believe
he then risks Roland Garros, similar to 2008-2009.
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Roger Federer
will be the player to take #1 again. I think that those who
have written him off (again), just don't realize that these days
it is difficult to be at a high level for a long time. He was
amazing at age 30-31 where he won 9 titles between Nov 2011 and
August 2012 (Basel - Cincinnati) and returned to World #1 for
another 17 weeks.
I think this year's lull was done purposely and that he'll come
back with an all out attack in 2014. He can gain points just
about everywhere. Then, he will relax in 2015, and have a
focused attack in 2016. That's about as far as I can see. Of
course that is predicated on if he can have relatively good
health during this time. His back is a concern. As he gets
older it is more difficult to manage and recover from incidents
of spasms. Of course there is a certainty that one day, he will
not have what it takes to get back to the top anymore. Many
think that is the case now. I'm not so sure. We will see.
Unfortunately, I think Andy Murray is done winning majors and
will have sporadic success in other big tournaments. He said
that he would never be able to top winning Wimbledon. Nothing
wrong with that. But it indicates to me that he will have
difficulty motivating himself enough to continue winning majors.
But we will see. Maybe Lendl can help instill yet greater
ambition. I sincerely hope Andy makes me wrong. But to do that,
I believe he absolutely has to improve his second serve. It's a
major weakness in his arsenal and puts too much pressure on his
1st serve.
Djokovic is playing almost too consistently, but not well
enough, if you know what I mean, to have a great chance at #1
next year. I think that these days, you have to have a few
months strategic lull to allow you to gain points easier, make
yourself the hunter instead of the hunted, easing pressure on
yourself, and climb the ladder to #1. It becomes very
cyclical. With his consistency, Novak has to up his play and
confidence to 2011 levels to have a chance to gain much. But
if he gives himself a bit of a lull in 2014, then I think 2015
could be an excellent year for him.
I don't think the usual other top 10er's have any chance, except
for perhaps del Potro, if he can schedule a bit better, stay
healthy and somehow rise another level.
Other than that, it's only the excellent youngsters that have a
chance to break into the top echelon. But they have to avoid
injury, become more consistent, and go up another level. I'm
talking about Raonic, Carreno Busta, Janowicz, Dimitrov.
Again, they have to get into the top 10 first. A big result at
a major would do the trick of a couple of them.
I know Carreno Busta is only ranked 66th and Dimitrov has fallen
off to 28th, but they are only 22 and I still see great
potential in both of them. I think they could both stand to put
a bit of meat on themselves. They are both 6'2 (188 cm) and yet
weigh under 170 pounds (78 kg). More targeted slow-twitch
muscle fiber mass could obviously help their endurance.
I think that with a little more work on his backhand and return,
Raonic can be a force at the hard court majors, and Janowicz is
an obvious threat at Wimbledon especially and the others, but he
needs to mature a bit and improve shot selection to gain more
consistency.
I think these youngsters are still about 2-3 years away from
making a huge impact, but perhaps it could come sooner for some.
I see no one else having a chance at the moment.
