Barney Wintermeyer's saloon at 15 Bowery...in 1921.
New York, July 5, 1921. "Lanier Hotel restaurant." Fried kidney
only 20 cents. Note sleeping mousers. 5x7 glass negative, Bain
News Service.
Lotta history in those old saloons of Manhattan.

While the photo is 30 years after the murder, I'm sure not much
had changed, if anything.

Just in case readers were questioning what's on the saloon floor
in the photo, that's sawdust.
Sawdust was used to absorb fluids and was easy to sweep up. You
can just imagine how many
pounds of tobacco juice, spilled beer, spit, and other gunk were
on the floors of 19th-century taprooms.
