       A Headless Torso & A Brass Key  - 1864 East River Mystery

       Thirty-three years before the murder of William Guldensuppe, by
       the zaftig Frau Nack & lover boy Martin Thorn,  and during the
       last Winter
       of the American Civil War, a man was found dismembered in the
       East River close to the Brooklyn shore.
       In his possession was a brass key...mentioned in the Frank
       Leslie Illustrated sketch of his head.
       Pretty gruesome stuff for 1864, when most newspapers didn't
       carry photos.
       Part of him was found down on Corlear's Hook, on the Manhattan
       side of the river.
       The term "hooker" for a prostitute is widely believed to
       originate from the neighborhood of Corlear's Hook in New York
       City.
