       With a long obituary, which incidentally states he was born 1842
       - I think in the book, you write 1840?

       And some details about his marriage - he apparently remarried,
       since you state his wife died 1869?

       Incidentally, Brennan was at the funeral of Recorder Smyth's
       wife in late march or early April 1895, alongside other
       case-notables ex-governor Flower and Fr. Coudert:

       Pete:
       His obituary in the July 10th, 1901 New York Times claimed he
       was born in 1844, as does the New York Tribune on the same date.
       Nina found him in the archives being born in 1840. When she
       wakes up, I'll ask her to verify.
       Inspector Byrnes was one of his pallbearers (NY Tribune, July
       13, 1901)
