       The Railway Murders ( 2021 )

Don Rumbelow and Alan Moss appear in this interesting six-part
series produced by the folks who created the Murder Maps series
       a few years back.
Not only are they entertaining programs, but the most recent
       railway murder discussed remains unsolved.
       All the others were solved.
One interesting fact that pops up in this series is that until
1898, people charged with crimes could not testify on their
       behalf in Britain.
Americans will find this remarkable. In the United States, a
person charged with a crime can begin providing testimony in
their own defense during the defense phase of their trial, after
the prosecution has presented its case and rested; this right is
guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment of the Constitution, which
allows a defendant to testify on their own behalf if they choose
to do so. That was guaranteed in the US over 120 years before it
was finally a guaranteed right in the UK.
That's why, despite what I personally believe was an astounding
blunder on the part of Ameer Ben Ali, Ali had every right to
testify on his behalf. I still fault the three defense lawyers
with not doing more to prevent that debacle. But, hey...the case
wouldn't be quite as interesting without that 'Abbott &
Costello' exchange between Wellman and Ali, would it? ;) ;) ;)
I've checked each link and each functions well. Enjoy.
