1- Ali As Guilty Party:
* performance on witness stand
* past attempts at entering rooms other than his own
* direct evidence : material found under his nails
* conversation with interpreter admitting that he'd been in
the room
the interpreter had been hired by the French consulate (
The defense )
* jurors aware that he could converse in English
* claim that the blood on his shirt came from a menstruating
woman
which was shown to be false
* seen 'sneaking' out of the hotel at 5:00 a.m. on the
morning the victim's body found
* circumstantial evidence: Sept. 1890 assault in same hotel
upon Lopez
non-stop prevarication from beginning to end, from his
whereabouts to his
interaction with local women
* prior to the trial, three other incidents involving the
police, jail and/or the court
four events in 55 days ( September 1890-April 1891)
2- Kniclo As Guilty Party Without Damon's Input
* last man who was seen with the victim
* key missing from the room
* if Glenmore Man, his description matches one given by Mary
Miniter
3- Kniclo As Guilty Party With Damon's Input
* missing key found, left by farmhand
* a bloody shirt, left by the farmhand
* key said to match ones from the hotel
4- Issues With Damon Input
* key not authenticated
* bloody shirt not presented with key
* his description of farmhand/C. Kniclo does not match one
given by Miniter
and by clerk at Glenmore Hotel, assuming that he may have
been C. Kniclo
* excessive number of excuses given by Damon to explain his
reticence
* ample number of reasons to release Ali without tangible
evidence, yet
Damon story, with alleged tangible evidence being accepted
* Several others living in Damon's home during 1891 did not
provide affidavits
* Affidavits accepted without further scrutinization
5- In Support Of Damon Story
* motive for fabricating his story yet to be given or provided
with solid evidence
* letter of support from his friend, the Governor of New
Jersey
* affidavits in support of his version of events given by
friend and employee
6- Additional support toward obtaining Ali's release
* request to release Ali simply to send him back to Algeria
made by New York
representatives of the French consulate
* men of prominence in the U.S. allied with the pardon
campaign
* four reporters file affidavits which contain references with
the allegation
that blood was not visible to them when they were on the
fifth floor the day
the body was discovered, those reporters being: Jacob Riis,
Robert Gordon Butler,
Frederick Barber, and Francis Coleman
