Horrible Death Of Another Shakespeare- Mary Phillips, 1892

Compared to the method used by Carrie Brown's killer (
Suffocation ), Mary Phillips's terrifying death a little over a
year after Carrie's murder was probably worse.
Just imagine the two to three seconds before impact.

Believe it or not, there was yet another woman nicknamed
Shakespeare.
Annie Campbell, who was featured in several papers right after
Carrie was murdered, was also known as Shakespeare.
She even went to see Carrie's corpse.
Unless Annie and Crazy Mary were the same person, there were
three.
She and her husband lived here on Park Row ( Not the glamorous
Park Row, for sure) near Chatham Square.
Frank Phillips doesn't appear in New York City Directories for
1893 or 1894 residing at 223 Park Row.

This block, between Roosevelt at the bottom of the photo and
Doyer Street ( near the bridge ), was where she fell out of that
building.
22 Cherry Street was on the side of the street designated by the
star.

Could you post the article from the NY World, august 5, in which
the husband speaks to a man who cleaned up the blood? Has it
been posted somewhere already?

Until I find the physical article, here is the excerpt in
question....
According to the New York World on August 5th, Mr. Phillips,
after being released from the police station, went to the site
where his wife had fallen. An older man named Joe Halsey, who
had scrubbed the ground to remove Mary's blood told him.
"You won't find any blood there, my man." I scrubbed it up first
thing this morning. The scalp I threw in the garbage barrel.
You didn't want it, did you?"
Phillips replied, " No, the scalps no good. Was it a big piece?
Halsey told him that it was about ten inches long.

Blindman's Alley, Cherry Street.
''Three men and a woman seated in a small room, tea kettle on
the stove..."
Phillips didn't live in Blindman's Alley...she lived on Park
Row.
