...we can't be sure, but unless Briscoe moved to Roosevelt
Street by 1891 and managed to avoid being listed in the
City directory, I think she was living on Water Street at the
       time of the murder.
Not sure I follow, Howard. Why should we discount the newspapers
telling us she lived at 12 Roosevelt when she was arrested in
       1891?
If the Mary Briscoe in the 1890-directory is her, then by 1891
       she had moved.
That's true, we shouldn't discount it. That's just my opinion
that she was still on Water Street, if the Briscoe on Water
       Street was our Mary.

In another article, Briscoe is said to have lived at 80 James
       Street but was turned out:
       [attachimg=1]
       Sun. April 27, 1891
You said you found other articles mentioning her address as 12
       Roosevelt?

       Speaking of Mrs. Finnegan:
She does not show up in the entries ( found in two places) for
       80 James Street.
       Still working on her.. >:(

       Pete:
       Dublin Mary's surname was Briscoe.
Johnson and Pacific Avenues intersect and are located in Jersey
       City, NJ.
       It ain't her....but nice try.

Yeah, I know...just thought "Dublin Mary" is a pretty unusual
nickname, so maybe the papers messed up her name :)

I found a woman nicknamed Dublin Mary in Carson City, Nevada,
       who died in 1890.
       She wasn't a prostitute, either.
Got me thinking....maybe Dublin Mary did live in 'Chilltown'
       before moving to Manhattan.

       Pete:
       I forgot this!
She's in the NYPD Police Census living two doors from the East
River Hotel at 383 Water in 1890.

I never noticed this detail before: in the NY Herald, April 27
1891, it is stated: "Dublin Mary" used to be the wife of a
respectable plasterer who lived in Oliver Street.
"used to" can mean she's a widow, or it can mean one of them
       abandoned the other.
I've tried looking for plasterers in Oliver Street in the
mid-1880s, but without a directory organised by street, it's
impossible. I don't think one is available for the 1880s?
       There's a Patrick W. Briscoe, who's a painter and who dies
around 1882 and leaves a widow, Mary, but the addresses
1880-1893 are not very close to Oliver Street. Besides, Dublin
Mary would be too young to be the widow. The other Briscoes in
the NY directories are even less of a match.
