       Charles Brennan worked for George Damon at Damon's 44 Beekman
       Street printing firm as a truck-man.
       Another flat tire for the Damon story since I obtained the
       affidavit sworn to by his 15 year-long employee, Charles
       Brennan.
       The front desk is where Miniter got the key to Room 31 for C.
       Kniclo and Brown....and nowhere else.

       I've been aware of this particular element within Damon's story
       for some time, having read Low Life by Luc Sante, and mulling
       over the possibility that a dive like the East River Hotel would
       not only have a front desk key board but one in the saloon
       located in the basement.
       However, I really needed Brennan's full affidavit to see whether
       Brennan had a different spin on the location of the saloon
       and/or the board that held the keys.
       The stories are both the same..... It's a lie. No hotel has two
       boards to hold keys. Hotels, not just this dump, having one in
       the bar as well as on the main floor, would be a real temptation
       to someone without a room to just reach over, take a key, grab a
       girl, and get busy in one of the rooms upstairs.
       Had someone aware of the location of the bar in relation to the
       front desk read what these two swore to carefully, this probably
       would have been noticed.
       On the other hand, I have my doubts about whether anyone
       involved in the pardon campaigns would have said anything now
       that they were on the verge of achieving their decade-long
       mission to get Ali out of jail.
