       Hotel: Three Permanent Residents in 1894

       A while ago, the question of whether families lived in the Hotel
       was brought up.
       This clip is from an article related to issues concerning the
       stuffing of ballot boxes...people voting
       more than once, a common practice in New York at the time....and
       obviously illegal.
       "Alderman Brown says there was no colonizing done here," said
       Mr. Ellis. "That is probably so, for the lodging
       house keepers take care of that. The Fourth Ward Hotel, where
       'Shakespeare' was hacked to death by 'Frenchy,'
       has as permanent residents the two bartenders and the night
       clerk, but twenty-three persons were registered and voted from
       that house".
       Tommy Thompson didn't live at the Hotel. He lived at 233 East
       96th Street.  Neither did James Jennings or Sam Shine....and
       neither did any families at this point.
       One person who claimed to have lived at the hotel for 30 years
       was a 70-year-old man named Dan Donovan.
