From one of the New York FB pages I follow.....Hope you like it
       as much as I do.
NEW YORK, 1877 - 90 meters above death
Two men walk on a wooden board suspended by ropes over the East
River. No belt, no net, no second chance.
This is the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, seen from the
side of Brooklyn facing towards Manhattan in the foreground.
In 1877, the work entered its riskiest phase: the wiring of the
four steel cables that would support the bridge.
Each cable is made of 5,000 hand-braided steel wires.
The bridge took 14 years to complete (1869-1883).
Designer John Roebling died before he saw the work begin.
His son Washington became paraplegic while working on the
       submerged foundations.
It was his wife, Emily Roebling, who took over engineering and
delivered the world's longest suspension bridge at the time.
27 lives were lost here to connect two worlds. Today, 150 years
later, 150,000 people cross it every day without remembering the
effort it took to create the Brooklyn Bridge.
Original P&B photo from 1877, colorized.
