       Did Damon Go To Albany And Visit Odell?

       On May 15th, New Jersey Gov. Foster Voorhees writes a letter for
       Governor Odell, vouching for George Damon. In 1896,
       Voorhees had been Damon's attorney in a criminal matter over in
       New Jersey. At the time, Voorhees was a state Senator.
       I used the term 'for' instead of 'to' Governor Odell because of
       the wording on the envelope.
       This is the envelope's face and the two-page letter.
       Envelope:

       Governor
       Dear Sir:
       Mr. George Damon of Cranford in this State is a resident of my
       home county and has been
       personally and professionally known to me for a number of years.
       He bears an excellent reputation-

       in the community in which he has lived for a long time and for
       him I have a high personal regard.
       I feel safe in assuring you that you can safely rely upon
       representations made by him.

       Did Damon actually go to see Odell in May?
       Or did Voorhees write the letter for Damon, who, in turn, handed
       it to Robillard, who then sent it
       to Odell on June 1st with other pertinent materials? Robillard
       sent affidavits, other info, and the alleged room key
       on that date to Odell.
       There are no newspaper articles in which Damon-by-name or
       referenced anonymously as having gone to see Odell.
       No articles even hint at Damon visiting the Governor. No
       official files state that he did. No letters from Robillard to
       Philbin,
       Odell, or Robert Butler mention Damon going to Albany. No
       letters between Odell and Philbin mention such a meeting,
       either.
       I don't think he went, despite letters of introduction
       ordinarily being handed to the person or representatives
       of said person personally, not through a third party.
       While it could be accepted that the newspapers would be reticent
       in revealing Damon's name for a variety of reasons ( Damon's
       request,
       the D.A.'s request, or the pardon campaigners' request), it
       doesn't seem possible that if he had gone to Albany, it wouldn't
       be in the official
       files.
       The official files were not for public consumption. You could
       count the number of people who actually did see the official
       files on two hands.
       There would be no need to conceal Damon's identity since the
       public would never see them.
