AMBASSADE
DE LA RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE
AUX ÉTATS-UNIS
Washington 3 March 1902
Sir,
During my visit to Albany in January last, I had
the honor to call your kind attention to the case of "Amer
ben Ali" a French citizen from Algeria, known by the
name of "Frenchy" requesting you to tbe good enough to
exercise executive clemency in his behalf.
Mr. Ovide Robillard notified "Frenchy's Attorney has
me that he has submitted to your Excellency proof, recently
discovered, which would warrant the granting of the favor
which this Embassy has endeavored to obtain for several
years.
Hoping that the new request I beg to submit to you
will be favorably received, I have the honor to remain, Sir,
Very truly yours,
Jules Cambon
His Excellency
B.B. Odell, Governor of
State of New York, Albany, (N.Y.)
From Gov. Odell back to Cambon:
Hon. Jules Cambon,
March 5, 1902.
French Ambassador, Washington, D. C.
Sir:-
I am in receipt of your faver of the 3rd. inst. concerning the
case of Amer Ben Ali. Owing to a press
of legislative work I have not been considering pardon cases,
but shall take those matters up upon
the adjournment of the Legislature, which will probably be in
the course of the next three or four weeks.
I will then take action in the case you refer to.
Very truly yours
