       AT THE GUILLOTINE.
       THREE ARAB ASSASSINS EXECUTED IN THE PROVINCE OF ALGIERS.
       London, Oct. 3.—A triple execution which recently took place at
       Setiff, in Algiers, seems to have profoundly agitated the native
       population of that French province. The three men executed were
       Arabs, named Ali Ben-Baziz, Amar Ben-Kassi and Ali Netboudi, and
       their crime was the assassination on Dec. 5, 1890, of the
       Governor of the military post of Setiff, Pierre Aucla. The men
       were condemned by the court of Constantine, and a petition of
       mercy that they made was rejected. They were sentenced to death
       by the guillotine, and on the morning of the execution at 4
       o'clock there assembled in the market place, where the
       guillotine had been erected, a crowd of upwards of 3,000
       persons, composed principally of Arabs and Kabyls.
       The condemned men bore themselves with much firmness and refused
       to take either coffee or tobacco which were offered them.
       Netboudi and Kassi conversed for some time with the Mostein
       present but Netboudi refused, Netboudi and Kassi died smiling
       and calling upon Allah and Mahomet. Baziz, who saw his two
       accomplices guillotined, with a smile on his lips showed
       remarkable fortitude. The triple execution only took nine
       minutes in all for the completion, and was free from any of
       those horrible and sensational incidents which so often
       accompany executions by hanging here and in America.
       The men executed were very much of the same type as the man
       Frenchy lately convicted in New York of the murder of the woman
       Shakespeare.
