Nina has put a lot of time into her Charles Brown project,
cataloging all of his voyages.
I'll share a few snippets of it here.
There has yet to be found any mention of Charles E. Brown in
Civil War registries.
Research is still ongoing. Voyages after June 1862 to October 4,
1865, have not been located. There were six voyages after
October 1865 up until his death in April 1873.
First of all, his first of 24 voyages ( 1849-1862).
Charles Brown left Salem for Para, Brazil, on the Brig Aerial on
July 30, 1849, and returned to Salem on October 10, 1849.
It was a 72-day trip.

1850: 149 days
1851: 116 days
1852: 66 days
1853: 245 days

Ellen's birth.
1855: 53 days
1856: 129 days
1857: 64 days
1858: 139 days

in May. He left 11 days prior to his son's death.
1860: 53 days
1861: 51 days
1862: 0 days
Time together before July 30, 1849, and after June 26, 1862 is
not included.
The couple was together for 1,176 days out of the 4,714 days
between these dates above.
We both firmly believe Carrie and Charles were married in 1849,
possibly when she was 14 or 15 years old.
In New York State in 1849 and 1850, girls could legally marry at
the age of 12
