Chatham Square 1870 & 1900 : Glenmore Hotel Location

The first photo is from 1870. The arrow with the number '4'
indicates the building where
the Glenmore Hotel was...not necessarily in business in 1870.
The second is of the Hotel in 1900, at 4 Chatham Square.

This view shows the turnover in business in a city of
opportunities. The Square was a center of transportation.
About a half dozen horsecar lines traversed it. The principal
hack stand for the East Side was located in the Square.

Hi Howard
It doesn't seem like the building in the first photo can be the
same as in the second. Unless it was razed and reconstructed?
In the second photo, the hotel is a corner property - in the
first it is not?
Look at the 1st floor windows in the first photo - arched. (I
mean 1st floor in the European sense, so ground floor - 1st
floor).
In the second photo, the windows are rectangular?
Also, there are not enough windows in the first photo for the
corner property to correspond with the corner property in the
second photo?

Pete:
I believe that there were renovations to the building....the
first photo was 29 years before the one on bottom.
4 Chatham Square was the address. In any event, the two
buildings in the 1870 photo stand on the location
of the hotel in 1891 and 1900.

The Glenmore is on the right-hand side of the photo. From 1880
The street in front of the building with the sign 'Benson's
Capone', is Mott Street.
