Compare and contrast
Drug dependency and drug addiction

From what I’m gathering in this book I have learned that drug
dependency and drug addiction are separated or different based
on the physical and neurological affect. Drug addiction is more
sever as it affects the brain or its more neurological and drug
dependency is more of a state of mind or something that has been
trained into the person over repeated use over time. Drug
dependency is the meaning that would represent something that
shows the physical addiction to something. It’s when the body
becomes accustomed to a drug and the removal of that drug from
the body would create physical and psychological challenges.
It’s like the step that happens before the person becomes an
addict. These two terms are so close in meaning that they are
sometimes confusing. People use them and think they are the
same thing. Drug addiction to a lot people gives them an idea
or picture in their brain of a street person, passed out and
begging for food. Drug dependency almost seems less negative,
like a person who is dependent on pain meds after a surgery or
dependent on insulin for their diabetes but that’s not what it
is.
Drug addiction can also be defined as when you have a dependency
on a drug and it becomes so severe that it affects work, social,
safety, family and health problems.

If I am understanding this right, drug dependency and addiction
both have to do with the need to use a drug, and struggle to
stop using, even when serious consequences arise. Drug
dependency is referring to more of the physical aspect of it,
such as the tolerance and withdrawals. When a person stops using
the drug, they are faced with negative physical consequences.
People become dependent on the drug so they go through the
withdrawal symptoms. Drug addiction has physical consequences
but also affects them mentally. They are unable to stop using
the drug, and lack in other aspects of their life. Their work
life, relationships, and health is affected but one feel they
cannot change and stop using the drug.

Drug dependence is a state that develops when a person
repeatedly takes or receives a drug which results in symptoms of
withdrawal when they stop getting/taking the drug. Addiction
stems out of drug dependence and can be characterized as a
compulsive use of the drug that continues despite negative
consequences from it's use. Addiction is an out-of-control use
of the drug.

drug dependence also have some mental dependence on a drug but
not be addicted?

Drug dependency and drug addiction both relate in the way there
is a compulsive need to use the drug but they do differ. What I
took from this part in the chapter is that they both have
physical hardships while quitting but drug addiction takes a
neurological effect as well. They also spoke about how addiction
gets put with certain drugs. They used heroin as an example.

Both drug addiction and drug dependency are a compulsive need to
use drugs and an inability to quit use even when serious
consequences arise. Drug dependency is the body being dependent
on the drug and the adjustments the body makes to usage. when
discontinued, the person has withdrawal symptoms. Addiction to a
drug is a physical dependency but also the inability to stop
usage and all the social problems that brings to a persons life.

COMPARE DRUG DEPENDENCY AND DRUG ADDICTION:
Drug dependency is when the body adjusts to the presence of a
substance, the body will go through withdrawal without the
substance.
Drug addiction is considered a disease that impacts the brain.

Drug dependence is usually based on a physical dependence. When
you start gaining tolerance and when you withdrawal when not
using the drug. But at this point, its not the only thing you
think about. You are still able to function in daily life for
the most part. Drug addiction is also the withdrawal and higher
tolerance, but its also when the drug becomes your top priority.
It starts becoming a problem in your social and financial life.
