January Mixed School Day "Burns Night"
Saturday 26th January 2019.
Report from Beril.
SO, who all came along today.
Miss Stephanie Hardcastle, Headmistress.
Miss Ros Dubois, Deputy Headmistress.
The pupils.
Alex Evans.
Alex Cowell.
Beril Reid.
Vicky Wilson.
Steven Rivirea.
Peter Allen.
Ian Gold.
Martyn Slater.
and in the evening
we were joined by Pete Latham.
And that was it for today.

Perhaps I should start by telling you, how sorry we all were
hearing the sad news
that Gazza's mum passed away in the week, after a long illness.
The Headmistress had organised a card for everyone in the class
to sign,
which she will pass on to Gazza.

It was about a quarter to one before the Headmistress
got the class settled down and made a start on the first lesson.
A general knowledge test.
Everyone must reach 70% pass mark,
or face a whacking..

Next followed an old favourite " The English word puzzle."

Four or more letters in each word.
Each word must have the letter "E" in it.
NO rude /swear words.
Pass mark 15 words/points.
3 points for the full nine letter word.
Here goes -
race, care, cube, brace, crane, bear.
bean, been, acure, acer, bane, bare.
bore, beer, brace, brane, bunce, caber.
canter, cane, caren, cere, cube, pure.
earn, nacre, neer, rece, rune, urben.
and the nine letter word - tell you later..

All the kings and Queens of England
Starting with the Danish line 1066
through to Richard III.
Richard III (2 October 1452 – 22 August 1485) was King of
England and Lord of Ireland from 1483 until his death at the
Battle of Bosworth Field.

Finally, time for a break,
lots of tasty snacks, and a few cream cakes.
Everyone took their meal into the school room
where it was nice and warm.

Our first lesson after school dinners
was a lesson in English.
Abbreviations and Acronyms.
1. AD - Anno Domini.(After Christ was born).
2. BBFC - British Board of Film Classification - Official
Site
3. CIA - Central Intelligence Association.
4. HGV - Heavy Goods Vehicle.
5. NFU - National Farmers Union.
6. OFTEL - The Office of Telecommunications.
7. QC. - Queens Council.
8. RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institute.
9. TCCB - Test County Cricket Board.
10. AEU - United Arab Emerates.
Would you believe there are over 30 definations for AEU on the
internet.

The Headmistress collected in the dinner money,
and also the homework project, which was :-
I'd like everyone to write out a Robbie Burns poem,
and learn the first verse of their chosen poem.
She retired to her study to mark the homework,
leaving Miss Dubois in charge.
A maths lesson to be getting on with.

Next lesson with Miss Dubois in charge..
A page of sums to be getting on with..
Answer at least six.
Both the Headmistress and Miss Dubois seem to take the view
The most important part of the lesson is - at least having a go,
NO TRYING can earn a dose of the cane.
most of the class did quite well with the maths.
