haha, now there's a challenge for you,
as well as bringing along your "Present and Birthday card",
and some drink for yourself at the evening party,
Write a 5 minute talk on any subject,
Think I will talk about the "Greatest Poet" that ever lived..

I take it Beril that you refer to the great William Topaz
McGonagall.
Easily the worst poet ever to sink a dram.

Good guess Young Curtis,
But far from the mark,
There are dozens of very highly talented poets,
from down the years,,,,
BUT, there is only one famous enough to have a meal and dinner
named in his honour, and celebrated all round the world
in January of each year..

Well done Curtis for mentioning Mcdonagall; easily the most
dreadful concocter of verse ever, which in an ironic sense could
perhaps make him a candidate for the most famous poet ever!!
Seriously though there are at least a dozen poets whose work is
celebrated by some sort of annual event. Which one is the
greatest is of course a matter of personal opinion and taste and
we all respond differently. This was the point I made in a
recent post on this very question, which poor old Beril fails to
understand.

Would you two learned gentlemen care to join us on Saturday?
It would be good to see you both again, even if you could only
stay for part of the day.We would all look forward to hearing
your choice of topic to talk about. I know you have enjoyed
giving talks to us in the past Price and they have always been
well received.I'm sure Curtis could come up with something very
interesting as well. There would be some nice new people there
for you to meet too and I'm sure you would especially enjoy the
company of the two Alex girls and meeting Miss Dubois once
again.
Hope you can make it?

Well I have to say that thanks are due to you for the generous
accolade you have conferred upon the two " learned gentlemen "
to whom you refer. I spoke to the similarly exalted Curtis today
who affirms that he would not wish to dissent from the view
expressed. We both have our share of vanity!. It is very true
that I always enjoyed giving a talk to e class--thank you for
remembering them--being a sort of offshoot from my own career at
University and it goes without saying that I would like to
attend and give more. Unfortunately, as the Headmistress knows,
I am suffering from what is called ' reduced mobility ' having
to use a walking stick and am engaged on an exercise programme
which they tell me will be about six months before any
improvement is noticeable. A nuisance of course but it means
that travel is very difficult for me in the meantime. My
daughter drives all the way up from rural Buckinghamshire ti
fetch me and transport my aching bones down to their house, and
sometimes to Portsmouth for France. I have told the Headmistress
I will attend when I can but this is very much in the lap of the
gods of the medical profession just now. Regards Price.

I think we could all do that Beril. It's nice to be remembered
young Slater, hope all is well with you and the spanking
parties.
I still hope to make another visit but my lady friend is
keeping me busy at the moment. However, she is off to see her
son in Australia in April, where she will stay for a couple of
months. Hopefully, I will feel well enough to make the trip
north while she is away.
As to the talk, I asked Timmins what he would choose. He said
that he would hope to talk on the subject of flatulence but
feared this would cause an explosion from Miss Hastings.
I might have chosen to speak on the evils of drink but perhaps I
am not the best person to expound on that subject.
I'm sure you will give the good lady a happy anniversary. I will
send a card, the champagne will have to wait.

Yes Curtis, we could all give a talk on getting old and so could
I as Berll says. The difference being that some of us improve
mentally with age!
