The Federal Government is considering offering refugee visas to
white South African farmers amid an outcry from expatriates in
WA over escalating violence in the country.
The idea comes after the WA Liberal Party pressed the Government
to allow safe passage to Australia for “persecuted European
       minorities” from South Africa.
Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton told The West Australian he
was “very sympathetic” to the plight of farmers being targeted
in attacks and was “considering options at the moment”.
A spokesperson for the Department of Home Affairs said the
department was “monitoring the situation of minority groups in
South Africa in the context of consideration for potential
resettlement under the offshore humanitarian program”.
The West Australian understands members of WA’s large South
African community have contacted WA Liberal MPs concerned over
       the spike in targeted attacks.
The attacks are increasingly violent, with groups of armed
invaders sometimes torturing families before leaving them for
       dead.
Farmers are blaming the surge in violence on incitement from
politicians, mostly from the ruling African National Congress.
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosahas promised to speed up
the expropriation of land from whites without compensation.
WA Liberal MP Andrew Hastie said Citizenship and Multicultural
Affairs Minister Alan Tudge would be in Perth next month to meet
members of the South African expatriate community. He has also
been in talks with Mr Dutton.
Mr Hastie said consideration should be given to a special visa
       class for the farmers.
“They share our values, have long experience on the land and
would give our regional economies a much needed boost,” he said.
“Our agricultural sector is crying out for reliable workers.
“What’s happening in South Africa to these farmers is
disturbing. Hundreds of people have contacted me to say they are
very concerned at the systematic violent persecution of South
African farmers. The community wants action, and rightly so.”
Dave Stevenson, who came to Perth from South Africa with his
family in 2013, said stories of brutal attacks on white farmers
had shocked even those who had become hardened to South Africa’s
shocking crime rate. “Perth is very much like home but without
       all the issues,” he said.
He suggested the Australian Government might be able to offer
special humanitarian visas for farmers that would allow them to
bring their agricultural skills to WA.
Claire Hearn moved to Perth five years ago after being stabbed
while riding a bicycle. Previously, four men had broken into her
home and attacked her while she slept.
She explored getting a refugee visa for Australia, but she did
       not qualify.

Johannesburg - Australian Affairs Minister Peter Dutton can come
to our country and collect all his fellow racists, the Pan
Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) said on Friday.
This follows Dutton wanting to save white South African farmers
from the "horrific circumstances" in their home country.
Kenneth Mokgatlhe, PAC spokesperson said in a statement that the
socialist party was not taken aback to hear the remarks made by
Dutton that "some or all white people will be rescued from our
       country to Sydney".
"We are not worried at all," Mokgatlhe said."We must all remind
ourselves that Australia was stolen by Europeans the same way in
which our country was dispossessed from us, native owners. We
sympathise with the dispossessed people of Australia, the
aboriginal owners of that country who are today landless like a
majority of African people in this country," he said.
Dutton said he was considering fast-tracking visa applications
for white South Africans. He claimed the decision was sparked by
the "unfair" treatment of white farmers who were being murdered
and faced the threat of their land being taken away.
"The PAC invite the Australian Minister to come to our country
and collect all his fellow racists who feel that they cannot
live together with normal people and go live where they are
accepted in that unbecoming society," said Mokgatlhe.
"We uncompromisingly support the indigenous dispossessed
Australian to get their land back without compensation from
criminals who went around the world capturing land".
Mokgatlhe however reiterated that "PAC welcomed the call by
Australian government to collect the land criminals who are not
willing to give land back to its rightful owners to go to
Australia which has been declared a haven of racists".
