Overwrite...

Hello,
I use Audacity only recently, primarily for editing and
exporting in Ableton Live recorded loops. This results in the
following two problems:
1) It is not possible to save a wav file with the same name,
even not if the original file was previously deleted from the
destination folder. It always appears the error message "File
read-only / insufficient disk space" - which is not of course
the case. What could be wrong?
2) Can you generally open multiple instances of Audacity to edit
different sounds in parallel or is not it?
Everything under Windows XP SP2.
With Thanks + Regards,
nick

Try to "Settings" / "File Formats" copy of the files to be
processed Create "Then you should also be able to overwrite the
original file..
You can not open multiple instances of Audacity, but you can
open multiple windows (File / New or File / Open each produced a
new window).

Thank you! Overwrite works now.
I really meant also more likely to open new window - that will
not work if I click on the file itself.
In Ableton there is a "Edit" button that invokes the editor
program directly. Open Multiple AU window is not possible, I
would have to open the sample so directly by AU from. In the
case a bit awkward, perhaps it would be possible to bypass the
...
One more thing: "Normalize with a peak amplitude of-3dB" - what
difference does it to "normal" normalizing (advantages /
disadvantages)? It really is not necessarily quieter the signal
then, only the Wellenworm is small and it can not be undone.
Which option corresponds to the standard normalization method in
other programs?

@ markus: could you please write something on the normalization
method?
thank you!

With regards to your question. the -3 db and I do not know how
to continue. Since we could do with more of a sound engineer to
help ...
To any rate to 0 db to normal (full amplitude) as it actually
is, etc. even with CDs recommended, simply select "amplify",
then the default value take over ("ok"). The default value for
the gain corresponds to full amplitude. If too little results in
net volume, just before that the effect of "compression /
compressor" option. The balances loud and soft passages from a
bit.

Frankly I don't understand why this is -3 db. OK, you can turn
off, but why is it in Audacity there at all? In my opinion this
is unnecessary and even contradicts the idea of normalization.

This is nothing more than an idiot assurance. Known
applications:
1 ) When video editing ( DVD SVCD VCD) we not convert to mp3 but
mp2 at the end but what does a much poorer dynamic response and
when the 16 -bit Sound is driven right to 0dB, usually severely
overdriven . I have often had to turn down my files on foot back
on -3dB again .
2 ) Even old CD player (but only really old ) have such a bad
calculation accuracy that at even at slightly scratched CDs due
to the error diffusion method ( Reed -Solomon code ) distortions
occur when these are driven right to 0dB . ( Measure times old
CDs from the 80s , which are mostly still totally under control
) .
This function takes so today really no one more and I have been
wondering who has programmed together because the back . I
suppose that has been adopted for some outdated audio
engineering handbook , probably for the same from which the
sound - chapters were written off in the American Audacity
manual. As soon as I have time again, I'll try once to write
German instructions which are decibels and so'n stuff.
Having fun yet? - edgar

@edgar: lol. ;D
As someone once said his opinion ... But I am by its very nature
the same opinion (I have these dialogues also not programmed),
the appeal will on occasion times.

Again Message:
How indeed should now be well known I just read Nyquist. What I
personally might actually be needed on a German "About"
normalizer, but not distorted sontern 0.5 mm in front of
headroom is a "Broadcast Limiter" compressed. Since the (present
in the Windows version) limiter distorts rather than compress
will be the one of my next programming tricks. With the (also
runnable on Windows only) SC4 which is in principle feasible,
but you have to often trial and error until you have the correct
values. In addition, Audacity is multi-platform and not
Windows-only.
You please remember my own words - do not make rummeckern but
better - I shall at least try - edgar
