Alternative TB race - ‘Racing Hounds’
By: Griff Grof Date: January 7, 2019, 5:37 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I thought I’d post this here given that we aren’t running a TB
race this year :(
The Geocaching Association of Great Britain (GAGB)
HTML http://gagb.org.uk
are running a trackable race throughout 2019.
The theme is ‘Racing Hounds’, and there are four breeds to
choose from. All tags are entered into the main race, in which
the tag that travels the furthest wins (much like our CW races).
However, each breed has its own goal. So your breed is also
competing with others of its breed to be crowned ‘Best of
Breed’:
[li]Retriever: the prize for the dog tag that is picked up the
most times.[/li]
[li]Pointer: the dog tag that has the most ‘discover’ logs.[/li]
[li]Setter: the dog tag that clocks up the most mileage without
leaving the British Isles.[/li]
[li]Boxer: The TB that is dropped off or visits the most caches
that are ‘small', 'regular' or 'large'.[/li]
Tags cost £5.50 each and part of the profit will be donated to
upcoming UK Mega events!
The race begins on January 12th, and will launch at GAGB’s
‘Start the Year’ event in Keyworth (GC7X2V9), where the tags
will also be on sale. They’re also available to order online
now! You can join at any time - doesn’t have to be this
weekend.
It should be a lot of fun and a good substitute for our CW race
until it hopefully returns next year - and the money goes
towards a good cause, supporting the UK Mega’s!

Greyhounds, as well as other breeds, were considered but after
much discussion we opted for these four, mainly because of the
geocaching-related puns (eg retriever, tag to be retrieved the
most times).

greyhound - FTF hound, puzzle hound, grey - not standing out
while caching, fast (they are the second fastest land animal) -
visiting the most caches :P
But I do see what you mean Griff :)

One week in, and the current winner is on 515 km. Mine's not
doing too bad, 166.73km.
FYI, you can have up to one of each breed in the race (i.e. max
of 4 tags). I've released a retriever :)
