Niotification of new caches
By: hogsunters Date: January 27, 2015, 5:46 am

Just a quick query [ now I have been shown how to get round the
forum :-[]
We get notifications of new caches, but when we look at them
they have usually been found [ FTF], so obviously these cachers
are notified sooner than us - can anyone throw any light onto
why this is please? Thank you Jenny [ Mrs Hogshunters]

I have this -
HTML https://ifttt.com/wtf
HTML https://ifttt.com/wtf
- set up, so that an email triggers a text
to my phone, but it's worked only very sporadically of late.
There may be other solutions out there - if so I'd be interested
to hear.

I have a gmail account and use the gmail app on my phone, if an
email comes through I get notified immediately, I don't have to
manually check for emails, although I don't chase FTF's...

HTML http://www.geocaching.com/notify/default.aspx
Instant Notification Service
The Geocaching Instant Notification service allows you to easily
monitor the logs of geocaches within a particular area.
Geocachers most often use this feature to receive notifications
when new geocaches in their area are published, though you can
choose your own settings.
And, it depends on your service provider (ISP) some are quicker
than others at getting the information out there...

Thanks for the replies. We don't particularly chase FTF's, but
we were lucky enough to get one at Xmas time, purely by chance.
Its just that we had noticed that when we are notified of new
caches in our area people have generally already found them and
often by a few days before we have had any notification [ I
check my emails several times a day for other reasons not
caching :D]. Was just wondering .............
Thanks Jenny

Days - wow :o
There's something wrong there. Have you tried getting a free
gmail account and then pointing your notifications there?

The latest example is - we received the list from Geocaching of
new caches [ there is a new scouts series in Rugby] the first
person to look was on 24th, yet we didn't get the email until
today [27th]! This is to a gmail account. Just couldn't
understand it.

Ahh... you said 'list from Geocaching'. Do you mean the
Geocaching email that lists the latest events and newest caches?
If so then that would be the issue and can help you to set up
proper notifications.

No worries, hopefully this will help you. Go to this link:
HTML http://www.geocaching.com/notify/edit.aspx
HTML http://www.geocaching.com/notify/edit.aspx
See if you can work out what you need to enter to be notified
about what.
If you need some help go to this link:
HTML http://www.geocaching.com/about/premium.aspx#anchorNotify
HTML http://www.geocaching.com/about/premium.aspx#anchorNotify
You should then be sorted. Do ask though if you need more help
or don't understand the pages. One of us will be able to help
you get your notifications working as you would like :)
