bye bye RAF Little Rissington series

Had two cachers going round my series yesterday and bumped into
the gamekeepr's wife:
Flones and I were walking round your RAF Little Rissington
series this afternoon. As we approached number 12 we were
stopped by the gamekeeper's wife who was very anti-cachers. She
says that the caches have been placed without the permission of
either her husband or Mr Wingfield (the owner of the Barrington
Estate). I told her that the caches had been in place for about
4 years, but she was still adamant that they need to be removed.
She insists that one section (I believe from 11 to 12) is not on
the footpath at all. Her husband runs shoots for paying
customers using high-powered rifles with a range of 3 miles, and
he is concerned that a cacher may get in the way ...
Numbers 8 and 9 are both missing. Mr Gamekeeper has replaced the
signposts very recently. Mrs Gamekeeper also reckons that they
have removed number 12 because it is beyond the "No public
access" sign. We couldn't check on this because she stood and
watched us walk off down the hill towards number 13.
We said that we would contact you and pass on their concerns.
Apparently you could contact the Estate Office if you
wish.
I thought I had a good relationship with the people who worked
the land, as when caches came into conflict with what they were
doing, they put the cache to one side, I would disable it or
move it.
Sounds like something has changed. Time to archive I think :(

That's a real shame! All the caches were on footpaths ::)
When you say you had a good relationship with them, had you
spoken to them before?
Do you know if they manage any land over near the WW series?
But that is sad, especially as I never completed the entire
series and it was a CacheWalker event walk :(

There are two that have drifted due to changes at their original
location but the bit about high powered rifles I think was a bit
of a smoke screen, as the max. distance off the path is about
50ft.
I spoke to people out on the land, not sure if they were anyone
important but they were there on 'official' business.
This was my first series like this and soon found trying to find
who owned what and talk to someone wasn't easy. The biggest
problem was trying to approach someone in a way, that they
wouldn't just say "no" as it was just easier.

I agree. It's so hard to go about finding who owns what. It's
almost unreasonable for reviewers to expect it, and I doubt many
cachers manage to suss it out for any series.
I think it's sad how many landowners subsequently don't give
caching a chance, or take time to understand what it's really
about :(
Would you ever consider replacing in a few years time, or along
a different route in the same general area ???
