2014 Mega - Ayr (past event)
By: tarmacjohn Date: February 3, 2014, 4:29 am

Has anyone made any plans about this years Scottish Mega.
I was planning on going up for 3 - 4 days but all the cottage
bookings are for a week only. I would take the tent but Mrs TJ
doesn't do camping. I think it will have to be a B & B/hotel,
probably best to book it sooner rather than later.

At the moment, it looks like I'm going on my own and if so, I
will be taking a convoluted route to the Mega and could well
drop into a friend after the Mega, who lives about 40 miles
south of the Mega.
I tend to use YHA or camping if on my own :)

We have a cottage booked for the preceding week, sharing with
our good friends, The Grizzly Pair. It is only 2.5 miles from
the race-course so a good base for all the weeks events.
The idea is to stop off at Piratemania on the way up.

I think we might be in Switzerland or Spain around then.
Otherwise, I'll try and make it :D Though this looks unlikely
as we'll have some family staying with us; any caching I do get
to do will probably be around here anyway - lots of local
smilies need to be claimed after this dry period ;)
I'm personally more excited about the 2016 Mega, North Wales ;D

Nearly all booked here. Its our main holiday so we are leaving
early to visit and cache Islay, Texa (with luck!), Jura, Gigha,
a few we missed on Bute and then Gt Cumbrae before attending the
mega. We had hoped to get to Colonsay but the ferries didn't
work out this time.
One mainland cache we do intend to do is GC4PTF9, Scotland The
Quest - Argyll & Bute, as we aren't likely to be out that way
again and it would be good to do the series. Don't plan to
spend much time around Ayr as we were there in 2010 and the
caches were pretty average.
Any one going to the cèilidh? The Perth one was great fun....
Watch out midges here we come ;D ;D

Yum yum ;D
Not planned anything yet with the Munich trip planning but if I
do go (still not 100%), it might be a long trip there via some
islands ;D

Unfortunately the B&B in the area of the Mega is virtually
non-existent (unless you want to pay £144 a night at the local
Travel Lodge :o) due to the Commonwealth Games and a big Golf
Tournament amongst other things apparently.
I've had to do lots of juggling to get accommodation sorted as
apparently there is also a big wedding on Gt Cumbrae.
If your going to Bute I can recommend The Moorings in Rothesay,
at least it was really good when we were there in 2010 and Frank
still has it. We preferred Bute to Arran, but Arran is lovely.
How's the plans going for Munich, David?

The islands I was thinking about are: Lewis and Orkney :) - I
would love to get to Shetland but I think that will be just to
far with the time I have.
Munich:
The hotel is booked for 3 nights, the coach is looking at being
about £80 each at the moment but isn't finalised.
Cachers interested in it have voted on what they most want out
of the trip and (luckily) it's my top three that are the top
three: the Giga (the whole point of the trip), GC40
HTML http://coord.inf
o/GC40 in Belgium and a March 2001 cache, not
finalised but the one by Zurich
HTML http://coord.inf
o/GC516 looks to be the front runner.
Also, the route there and back is to get at least one cache in:
France, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland,
Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Belgium and UK ;D
Some excellent caches have had to be dropped as there isn't
enough time e.g. 1141 Fav Pts!

Really sad that I can't make the Mega this year :(
And wow, presumably those countries wouldn't all be covered in a
day ??? - How much could you do? And how many are signed up to
go? Maybe we need a thread just for the Giga to discuss and you
to keep us updated etc, again, wish I could go! :(
