I will be writing mine up as a blog post later on, and so will
summarise here. I've also got to select my Cache of the Year,
more on that later too..

I was pleased to complete my cache find calendar enabling me to
find those challenge caches that require such requirements, so
no heading out in the snow this year to 'tick a day off'. It was
also nice to finally fill in the D/T grid, which was done on a
great day out doing 21 T5 kayak caches amongst good geo friends.
For the third year in a row the number of caches found in the
year was much lower than the previous year, although number of
days caching was almost the same, doing less numbers wise was on
the whole more enjoyable.

Keep plugging away at the extremes each year North South, East,
and West.
Reached the 1,000 milestone.
Cached in 36 counties.
115 caches found, less than last year, but as said above,
sometimes the quality in fewer finds tops the numbers!
North: N 58° 31.192, Haggis Highway: Along the A9 GC3RHAD
South: N 50° 26.798, Side Tracked - Liskeard GC1W15X
East: E 1° 11.944, Taverham Trott 7 GC3XHK8
West: W 4° 28.122, Side Tracked - Liskeard GC1W15X
Furthest cache from home: 443 miles. Haggis Highway: Along the
A9 GC3RHAD
Favourite cache of the year?

Yep, it's a micro.
This is a SMALLER than average nano (call it a mini-nano
if you like!), so has a very fiddly log to deal with...
But was well worth the effort!
*Micro's.
Not against them, just "Right place, right time" and this one
fits the bill.

After almost 8 years we hit 1500 ;D ;D
We did better than 2011 (6 finds) and 2012 (25 finds) by hitting
the dizzy heights of 102 finds in 2013 :o
Best finds? Toss up between any of these three:
GCWYYZ - Butt where's the cache? (Worcs) by Dobunnis
GC2B8ZF - Romandato Canyon by nina gianni
GCY69V - Janpe's Inspiration by Tripitaka
All very special to us in their own way but great fun to do.
As ever one of the best things we took from last year was the
friendship and help from others.

I've now written my blog post reviewing my year's caching -
HTML http://griffgrof.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/2013s-caching-in-review_31.html
HTML http://griffgrof.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/2013s-caching-in-review_31.html
In summary,
To quote my profile exactly:
"This year (2013) I hope to get to 1500 (2000 would be even
better!) finds, and get more than 510 finds throughout the year.
My biggest challenge is to, again, find a futher 100 more
geocaches by Wrighty, my favorite cache hider. Along the way,
I'll be trying to beat previous stats records. I hope to have
even more time to go caching this year."
- I did get to 1500, but I really set myself the target to get
to 2000. I was a bit uninspired by caching at the start of this
year, so I didn't go as much as I'd like to...
- I found 229 caches this year, my worst total yet after 2011's
325, not above last year's 510. Back in 2010, I found 218 in
just over 2 months
- I reckon I found about 20 more Wrighty caches, no where near
the hundred!
- I did, however, achieve some new stats: five 5/5s as apposed
to none is what comes to mind. I filled in more of my grid doing
more unique caches too.
- I did not have more time to go caching this year, well, I did,
but, to be honest - most local loops haven't been worth
bothering with, and we didn't have the time to travel further
afield every weekend
I feel this year has been more about quality rather than
quantity. My first cache of the year was a cracker on Fan y Big
(Brecon Beacons) and one of my last was a Below Above. All the
series (bar one) this year that I've done have been great,
unlike previous years, selecting them by their positive comments
and favourite points rather than
I can now announce my Cache of the Year
HTML http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=cebb169d-7e65-4e08-a932-72a8a2f9ccc9<br
/>is Below Above - Fallen Monarch (GC2GAMT). Reasons why on that
bookmark list as well as my blog :)
