Old V new tech - advice please

Ok, so I've now had to go to Windows 7, as the old laptop died,
but I can't get the new one to interface with my beloved old Mio
550. For what its worth I have a full UK set of Memory Maps
that are probably 5 yrs old but still plenty good enough for
caching.
Firstly, does anyone know how to make W7 talk to W mobile 6 (I
think it is)?
Secondly, if I can't do 1 do I go and buy something like an
Oregon 600? (Have held one and its about the same size as the
MIo in its AeroCase - big screens the main attraction)
Thirdly, can I use my old MM's with that Oregon?
Fourthly, any other options?
We're currently using CacheSense on my phone (Motorola XT890 -
Intel) and it works fine but I don't know if I can load my MM's
onto that, forums are a bit to techie for me, if I could I think
I could manage with that.
Any been there done that advice would be appreciated.

There are issues with certain older windows mobile systems that
will not talk to Windows 7 or 8. I've got an HTC HD2 with
windows mobile that worked perfectly on XP but will not talk to
Windows 8. It appears Microsoft aren't bother with something
that they have broken. Saying this, you need to check your
specific set-up to see if anyone has found a work round. I did a
lot of Google searching on my issue and have had to use a
virtual machine on my Windows 8 computer with XP installed on it
:o
I love my Oregon, I think they are good GPS's but you can't use
MM on them but there are alternatives.
Your Motorola XT890 - Intel, is it an Andriod system or Windows?
MM can be installed on either, Andriod has an app but I haven't
seen a way to use the nice icons I use for geocaching on the
Andriod version.

I've just dug my old WinMo 6.5 HTC TyTN II out of a drawer and
brushed the cobwebs off. :D
You need to go here

Mobile Device Center, which replaced ActiveSync back when Vista
came out.
Ignore the stuff on the page about Vista. It just worked fine on
my Windows 8 PC, so Windows 7 should be no problem at all.

It is Windows Mobile Device Center that would just not work for
me but as I said, you do need to check your particular set-up.

Thanks for the prompt reply both...
Walktall - phones an android (version 4.1.2) I can live with the
little green box icons but would like MM mapping - I'll have a
look see for the app! Not sure I understand your reply about the
600, there are lots of packages with them advertised with MM,
but I'm unsure if I need the new version.
SidAndBob - Thanks for the link, I'll go and have a look when
I'm fresh, its been a long day! My first choice is to go on
using the Mio for now, there seems to be much development going
on in the world of hand held GPS and other may be giving Garmin
a run for their money.
I'll let you know how I get on....

You can buy OS maps for Oregon's but you can't use MM that you
already have. I have MM and an Oregon 300 but still had to buy
OS maps on a mem card for the Oregon.

I think you're absolutely right. With Garmin going down the
Android route we could be in for big changes and new
competition. You also have the best maps available (apart from
the new MM HD maps), so why not use them if you are happy with
the device. :) Your SiRFStar III Mio is most likely more
accurate than the current breed of Garmins too.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've looked at these locally and they
aren't up to much! According to the TT maps there is a footpath
running behind our house, and I know for a fact there isn't!
And when we go to Scotland, or even the remoter parts of Wales
I'm not confident I can rely on them.

Sid and Bob, thank you so much for that link to the Windows
Mobile Device Centre, IT WORKED ;D Just for the record the MIO
has WM5, not 6 but it still works.
Its so much faster than Activesync and it seems to be much more
reliable. Mio now works great, except I've somehow lost my
stylus >:( but that's no problem really.
