When did you first find out about Geocaching?

I first found out about Geocaching when I found Cotswold
Olimpicks by wrighty. I found it by accident when I went on a
walk around Chipping Campden with my cub group. When did you
first find out about Geocaching?

I was watching Country File when they used to have video diaries
from viewers. Well, Simply Paul had sent in a video diary about
geocaching :)
This was back at the start of 2005, Simply Paul is a lot slimmer
now ::)

Believe it or not, the first time I found out about caching was
at Cotswold Olimpiks with my Scout troop. I was a new leader and
I was shown it by my current Scout Leader

A good idea for a thread :) - and the same as WR, TJ :o
Well, I still remember how I found out. I was on the trampoline
with you, Wacky races, and you said that you had been for a walk
the day before but took "longer as we were looking for
something" and I asked what and he said "A Geocache". So he
explained that they were these boxes with "toys" inside.
I went inside for lunch and laughed at the idea, I couldn't get
over how ridiculous I thought it was :D Going for a walk and
finding boxes with old second hand toys?!
Then a week later we went on a walk around Ford, and invited
Wacky races along. He kept on telling us about Geocaching and I
realized it sounded quite fun. So on the way home, after a pub
lunch, we stopped by the footpath entrance leading to "Hinchwick
Valley 7". We logged the cache, and each placed an item in
taking one out. I arrived home, and made my account, and have
been caching since ;D

I saw a post in an off topic part of a role play game forum I
was part of. Someone had posted a message to give them
suggestions of something to do whilst they would be away from
our game on holiday for a while. Geocaching was suggested, but
nothing more was said about it, so I did a Google on the
suggestion and it kind of went from there.
A few days passed before I had a go at finding one. Used my
better half's car satnav for the first couple, and then my
interest really grew.

We first found out about geocaching when answering a ad in the
local paper asking for volunteers to check on the condition etc
of trig points in our local area. After visiting one we logged it
on the trig pointing web site where there was a grid with some
icons displayed one of which said cache, wondered what it was so
clicked on it and it took us to the cache page and was even more
intrigued so went to look for it without a gps. After a search we
did manage to find the cache and the rest as they say is
history.

Back in Jan last year a mate of mine mentioned it in the car up
in Lincolnshire, and I thought it sounded good, but nothing
happened from it.
Then in October, when with another friend, we were in Manchester
and she said she just had to find a cache, I asked about it, she
showed me all about it and the rest is history, 5 months later,
soon be hitting 200 goal.
