Re: Geocaching Facebook Groups - Why?

Twitter, I read more than I post. It is integrated into my works
IM program, and I get current local news feeds come through from
such places like the Standard newspaper. It is also the only
social network I can access on my not very new phone, because
you can post by sms text. A lot of celebs use, sometimes they
answer if you send messages to them. Certainly I have gotten to
have a few words with people I never probably would without it,
an example was the other night I had few brief exchanges with
Lady Bathurst about the movie The Expendables ;D

I have a smartphone but it's pay as you go (2G) so no Internet
and I would have to go from home to use it - no signal :o
You're still driving that nail home why I shouldn't have Twitter
:P

Quote from Griff Grof's first post: Or are they? Facebook is,
they say "for sharing with friends, instantly" with no "compose
reply" buttons to be found - Facebook will never crash, unlike
forums, Facebook has its own app, so it's easy to check new
replies on the go, most people have Facebook and if they are on
it anyway then they only have to stay on one sight, rather than
logging onto another forum - they can have all their
communications on one site.
(I tried using the Quote button but it wouldn't load!)
I guess you techie folks know about the Tapatalk forum apps for
android and iphone that let you communicate with forums more
easily than using a browser? I came across them yesterday (on
the mig welding forum) as I was wondering how I could use my new
phone for keeping tabs there. Does anyone else use this or
something similar? £1.99 for android.
Cheers, H.

Worked on your post! It's best to hit reply and then scroll down
to older posts and use the insert quote button :)
Not having a iPhone or Android mobile and my smart phone isn't
on contract (can't justify the cost even at £10 a month) - I
can't help.

Not all younger people use Twitter, I've not gone over to it, I
do use Facebook though. It's a 'friends' thing, keeping in
contact with people I know, and not adding just anyone and
everyone. I have the problem with random people trying to add
me, who I might have spoken to on another forum, but thats where
it stays.
A younger generation don't really have problems with that
concept, there are many who like it, and a lot of us, who don't
want it. A Facebook Group page does and doesn't work. It's great
for updating people about events/links/sharing pictures, but
sadly terrible for chatting and keeping a log of what was said,
where and when and with who.
Catch 22.
But on a good ending point, good forums like this one will keep
going, because you make them how the community wants it. Just
keep up advertising it via word of mouth and at events.

I have just been reading through a thread on another forum
discussing FB groups vs forums like these. It was quite an
interesting read. One post stood out to me over the others
though. Quoting the poster:

Amen.

Just out of curiosity, I noticed there is a Forum Gallery, but
only Walktall and Griff have used it.. Is it something worth
having, If not used by everyone?

It's there to use if you want... I think it is worth having.
