C.E.S.
Cranial Electro Stimulation (CES) uses a handheld sized device
that stimulates the cranium and brain with a current that cannot
usually be sensed by the consumer (below four milliamps). No
serious side effects have been reported. It is a recognized
device for treatment of depression, anxiety, and sleep
disorders.
Studies and clinical experience also suggest CES can be a
benefit for:
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Cognitive dysfunction
- Traumatic brain injury
- Pain
- Enhancing attention and concentration
- Decreasing assaultive behavior
CES can be used safely and conveniently in the home, without
professional supervision. It can be used adjunctively with most
other treatments.
Side Effects
There are no known contraindications to the use of CES. Side
effects are uncommon and of minimal severity. Differential
effects on children remain to be tested. The lack of drug
interactions, low incidence of side effects and suggestive
findings in small studies require additional research attention
and counsel responsible consumer use as the data are being
developed.
RESEARCH
There is published research spanning over 40 years, with at
least 20 double-blind placebo-controlled studies that prove
benefit outweighs risk. Several studies suggest that cranial
electrotherapy triggers changes in neurotransmitters and
endorphin release. Cranial electrotherapy has been shown to
attenuate methadone withdrawal and to improve cognitive function
in chemically dependent patients.
COSTS
Cranial electrotherapy is affordable without insurance and easy
for patients to use without supervision. The cost generally
ranges from USD $600 to $800, depending on the manufacturer and
features. However the BUMBLE BEE devices were designed with low
income earners in mind who do not have access to those overly
expensive devices. The most expensive device in the Bumble Bee
range is around approximately $120 USD.
Most Bumble Bee users who have used other CES devices have found
that the BUMBLE BEE is as effective or more so than other more
expensive medical grade devices.
